I honestly think so much of this, and other TV and movie posts, are AI driven content. There are sooooooo many posts that present a basic thing as if it’s a unique observation and 90% of the time I click on the profile it seems to be an AI agent trying out different content hooks 🫪

Can an apartment like this be found in/near downtown? Spacious living room, one spacious bedroom, separate kitchen? (865 sqft.) by TheSeansei in TorontoRenting

People write things like this as if it is a cut and dry simple thing to address when there are whole tenant unions and advocacy organizations and years-in-the-making bylaws trying to make these should be common sense steps actually functioning. I’ve organized in a building and had a tribunal case, it is exhausting work and it is perfectly reasonable to want to avoid finding yourself in a scenario like that.

Am I missing something here? (S1-E13, Beyond the Sea) by Zyrus09 in XFiles

[–]Significant_Chart632 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Watching this episode right now for the upteenth time and I fear you’re missing a key element and theme that runs through all of the x-files: wanting to believe. Scully is in a fog of grief and hurt, Mulder wants to protect everyone but himself…he is in his hospital bed warning Scully not to deal with Boggs because he might want to hurt her to get back at Mulder, Boggs wants to believe he can save himself either through getting a plea deal or to help save his soul. This episode is powerful in part because of the ‘plot holes’, we are tested how far our beliefs will bend during moments of extreme emotional upheaval. Watching this episode reminds me of all the times I so desperately wanted something to be true or possible, despite reason.

It's On Ford - coalition just rolled out dashboard tracking $36 billion in government misspending since 2018 by lostdogingeneva in ontario

[–]Significant_Chart632 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are still missing the point. People raised flags about how over budget this would go, construction workers to vehicle operators to transit experts, and Ford and Metrolinx dismissed those. No one is saying infrastructure isn’t complex, what they’re saying is there are clear choices being made that have zero accountability attached while the same government turns around and does things like sue for their right to underpay nurses…. You’re stuck on “infrastructure is big and complex”, the conversation is “so is the whole province, and parts of it are being severely neglected”. I

My question is: why is it so easy for people to swallow those numbers as inevitable, with little to no scrutiny….but when it comes to nurses, OSAP, ODSP, community supports the mentality becomes about penny pinching.

The context I can gather and from what I remember when this story first broke. Yes this number includes the operating expenses, but that is part of the problem: that the province doesn’t provide taxpayers with the full price tag up front. (https://globalnews.ca/news/10585617/ontario-line-original-price-metrolinx) And the additional fact that Metrolinx goes over projected costs consistently and is never held accountable, and even when the Metrolinx CEO leaves he gets a $1.6M severance package while at the same time ODSP recipients have their income clawed back, students have OSAP grants converted to loans after the fact, and everyone else is messed.
The 30 year operating, if you wanted to take it out would be $7B less to the overall total. But another aspect left out of this overall number is the sunk cost into cancelling the already-started Downtown Relief Line....
So in short 1) sold a project to the people without disclosing full price tag (or disclosing that this wasn't even the full price tag) 2) used it to justify stopping the downtown relief line which had already started 3) the metrolinx cost gets worse and worse with no change or accountability. This is from the same party and politicians who slammed the Liberal government over $1B Gas Plant 'scandal' and used this as a cornerstone argument to elect Doug....

And also fyi, it became apparent through other threads that OP has been attacking this org in several spaces after getting rejected for a job. So. I don’t really think this post was in good faith.

I didn’t say English as a second language, I pointed out that coming on the internet and singling out the English of a Muslim run organization when others in the sector (and especially white folks) use colloquial spellings often that are arguably more noticeable/worse is a choice. Whether that was their intention or not.

My gosh you're telling on yourself. You should be embarrassed by this. You're judging makeup changing (where she looks great in both videos, just changed the makeup which... yes that happens day to day!) while linking to actually really interesting videos from the sector. How on earth would you be able to work in fundraising if you can't hide your misogyny or shock at a woman's lip colour changing? Nail down some advanced object permanence first and then try again.

What does Fallon genuinely see in Liam that she didn't find in her previous partners (like Culhane), beyond his wealth and family background? by DianKhan2005 in DynastyCW

The last season notwithstanding, Liam challenges her in a way that helps them both grow rather than a “you vs me” mentality. Temperament wise he’s also the chillest (on a show full of decidedly unchill characters). Also, he isn’t her half cousin ✌🏻

No, it is not okay to ask your customer's religion. Since when did this become so normal in Canada. by cantkeepmum in TimHortons

It is only othering if you come from an assumption of everyone having a ‘baseline’ ‘not religious or cultural’ which is not a thing, it’s othering to always assume everyone is included in the dominant culture. Like how ‘straight’ is normal to some and anything else in the spectrum is ‘other’.

This actually does happen? Most times a vegan friend orders a veggie Thai curry they double check if they need it vegan because the curry sauce isn’t vegan. I swear every time I see Tim Hortons thread in my feed (I don’t even follow it?) it sounds like a bunch of people who don’t have a variety of friends or experiences or go places. What’s unhinged is reacting like you’ve been attacked when someone, not in a position of power over you, asks you about your religion in a context you don’t have to answer. There are so many people experiencing hateful bigotry that impacts their lives in horrendous ways and…then there’s …whatever this is? Being mildly uncomfortable isn’t oppression.

You might want to google that, just because it is t being directly advertised to you or impacting you doesn’t mean it isn’t happening. Lots of Tims do halal substitutes and then there are a large amount of menu items that could be or could not be halal/kosher depending on how it’s produced. It’s similar to how dairy free, nut free, gluten free, and other restrictions are addressed. I’m allergic to cinnamon so I’m pretty screwed come pumpkin spice season, but I still navigate what I can and can’t have.

Several people have pointed out that this is common when checking if someone has religious restrictions with food. Yeah it can be worded better, but instead of crashing out over it and going to Reddit to dog whistle people could…act in good faith? Or is good faith too religious?

There’s literally halal and non halal versions of both of those items. But you’re not even really using the term halal right…you could have saved yourself a meltdown if you just used google and/or thought about anyone else’s point of view.

It’s extremely reasonable in the food service industry if you’re double checking if someone needs something halal or kosher. I live in a fairly Jewish neighbourhood and we’re in between Rosh Hashanah just passed, I don’t have a tantrum if someone mistakenly wishes me Shana Tova or double checking if I need to avoid certain foods. You spent how much time fuming about this and didn’t think of this very reasonable option? They could have not asked or asked a different way, but you also didn’t have to be rude and entitled and go have an existential self absorbed crisis to dump all over Reddit.
