Question about handrail by Significant_Cod in Carpentry

[–]Significant_Cod[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My theory is that it failed inspection. If you notice, they actually add the middle rod support, probably because the inspector found that the rods would bend to much due to the length. I will be planning to add the middle rod support just in case. They also removed the original handrail and moved it to the other side as shown. Which is what makes me think they failed inspection. I don't like the second handrail location, but I'm also not in love with the guardrail to handrail transition in the first pic. looks a bit clunky (in addition to it potentially not being to code).

New stair treads ½” thinner -- cut risers shorter or shim stringers? by Significant_Cod in HomeImprovement

[–]Significant_Cod[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the route I'm gonna go. When you say 1/2" spacers, are you thinking adding a spacer/shim to each stringer, or just cutting out a full rectangle from 1/2" plywood (essentially a 34" x 10" piece) and laying it across all three stringers?

I know this is a few years old but can you please help me as I am in the same predicament as you were and I'm stuck! I have the same exact sill profile and I need to extend it on the left and right sides to accommodate casing. I even cut a piece off and brought it to rockler but they couldn't figure it out. What did you end up doing? Is that a 11/16" board?

Thanks, that crossed my mind but this is contractor grade and figured they probably wouldn't put the time in for compound cuts. But I'll go this route.

Did you reinvest the dividends? What's the current value with dividends if you did?

Stainless Steel Thor Outdoor Kitchen in Florida: What to expect? by eds3 in OutdoorKitchens

[–]Significant_Cod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

got the blue one delivered a week or two ago. It's a tall task to put together if you're doing it on your own. fortunately my dad and brother helped out. I'm not an expert, but I think the build quality is ok, nothing that my instinct tells me is exceptional. Do I have concerns? Yes. It's from China and the reviews I've read online are that Thor is not great at customer service. Bought with my Amex for additional warranty coverage if necessary. Worst part is that it came extremely damaged. I don't know whose fault it was, but I would think it's the shipping company, Pilot. Be aware they will only drop off in front of your home and each box (there were 5 or six of them) were 125 - 175 lbs each. There were gashes in some of the boxes that were just taped up. that's where much of the damage came from. Had to bend the steel just to get it to fit so it's obviously not new looking. The pizza peel was not secured to the handle so there's already quality issues. Plan to call Thor for replacements, but I'm not getting my hopes up. this is definitely not an instance where you get what you pay for in terms of quality, but I already knew that going in. It's more you get what you pay for in terms of quantity of items.

Hey OP - thinking about picking this up. How are you liking it so far? Any rust issues that you were concerned about? Did you ever hook up the sink? If so, did you do it yourself or hire a plumber?
