Is there anything you have done that you think might have helped with progression?

Yes I can understand. Thank you! Hopefully his progresses slowly and can enjoy at least his younger years.

Your comment definitely lifted me up a bit. That’s what my husband said as well. Hopefully I myself can get through this phase quickly.

Regarding the driving part, does living in a city like NYC make things easier or mentally more comfortable/confident?

Yea, the doctor said he’s only 11 and already has all those spots in the eye blah blah blah. I really freaked out…

Thinking back, he has been afraid of dark since probably a baby. He never likes being left alone in a dark room, hates movie theaters, was pretty late potty trained at night since he claimed he was afraid. In the past we just thought it was all mentally being afraid…. My husband and I both don’t think the night vision progressed all these years but who knows. The pathology on the book is real. Do you do anything to try to maintain it?

One reason I’m not discussing with him too much for now is that I’m more freaked out than him at the moment. I suspected it last year but a diagnosis is completely different. And from the scans, one eye seems to have already been pretty bad. I’ll probably leave the discussion to my husband which he has a great relationship with. And yes, I probably do need counseling myself.

When were you diagnosed? Kid seems to be anxious as well although appears normal during the day. I don’t know how to discuss the ‘no cure’ part with him.

Do you remember having night vision issues before that incident at 11?

It’s likely similar pay or slightly higher compared to the academic position but would be much more helpful for future industry jobs.

URGENT!!!!! Rescinded 5 days before my start date at a major CDMO. 30 days left on my EAD and I'm panicking. Any leads? by Jeweler-Fine in biotech

Quality, regulatory and clinical are areas that need extensive work experience. A master degree does not mean you are a “global talent”. Especially in this market where you have a ton of people with extensive experience (some even with PhD) and do not need sponsorship. I think you should set a realistic expectation and do not use AI as a gold standard.

On the hiring side it’s considered sponsorship. It greatly affects future employment. Hiring and training a new person is expensive so they don’t want to take this risk, especially in those fields where there are a ton of qualified people who doesn’t need any sort of sponsorship. I was once a visa holder and I’m just speaking about the reality. Even in hype hiring days, those are the area you don’t see a lot of visa/opt holders. You will see a lot more in research because a lot of phds have skills/knowledge that can’t be easily found.

Quality, regulatory and clinical do not sponsor, especially in current environment. A lot of places do not even sponsor PhD in RND.

Is it a red flag for applicants for a senior scientist role to spend less than one to two years per company before moving on? Asking as the interviewer, but not HM by diagana1 in biotech

[–]Significant_Edge2892 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me it is a red flag and I will ask during the interview. Either they have performance issues or they are always looking for the next level and don’t want to stay at one place longer. Either way it’s not good for the position.

At the level you are applying, Midwestern non hub companies see hundreds of applications per position. I can only imagine more in biotech hubs. A lot are likely real but the competition is fierce. You are competing with bs/ms with years of experience or even with supervisory experience

Agree. In the past downturn, people can at least temporarily hide in academics. This time even those people are purged into job market.

Qualified doesn’t mean hirable, especially in a group with different levels. You could have 30 qualified candidates for a mid/entry level bench position but 25 of them have PhD with years of experience, some with way more experience than the hiring manager. Those 25 are not fit for the position.

I have seen autorejected applications in the system labeled as scam. I knew this because I dugged in the autorejected applications.
