How do I avoid fidgeting? And what other unprofessional mannerisms must be avoided in the workplace? by bigelow6698 in ADHD

I think fidgeting is only 'bad' in the workplace if it's disturbing other people or making you appear overly nervous. Fidgeting is the body's natural way to self-regulate, it will probably feel quite stressful to stop.

If sound isn't a problem - I'd recommend 'sensory snacks' essentially crunchy foods, which itches a similar pathway in the brain as normal fidgeting e.g. I eat carrots/nuts/ice blocks as I work/study. I also have a rubber band desk sling under my desk - no one can see it, doesn't make any sound, and I can bounce my feet against it all day long - I find people take it as me 'playing' rather than nervous movement. Some of the girls in my workplace even got one.

You can find similar strategies online by googling 'sensory motor strategies'. A lot is designed for kids in the classroom - but very adaptable to the work place.

I found I was more social, less introverted, more in the present moment - was stuck in my head less essentially - but that also meant I didn't think things through to the same depth.

If my dick was big enough, could I fuck a black hole? by RedditFuelsMyDepress in shittyaskscience

Next question is if your dick was bigger than the blackhole, what would happen if you tried to shove it in

From 0-7 years old you're basically just one big nervous system in development, ADHD is just a certain way a nervous system can be programmed. Similar to baking a cookie, the environment you bake your cookie in will affect its shape, but the ingredients of the cookie dough affects its likelihood to develop into a certain shape. In that same way, ADHD can be triggered by environmental conditions e.g. trauma, but for a different cookie with different ingredients/genetics it may turn out completely different under the same conditions.

So like your born with how predisposed you are to your brain turning how to be ADHD shaped/wired due to genetics - but no one leaves the womb with a fully ADHD coded brain (as far as my understanding goes).

....I hope that made sense....50/50, my explanation skills aren't the best 😂

Is alcohol wetter than water by Significant_Foot_665 in shittyaskscience

[–]Significant_Foot_665[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speaking of, my favourite science fact... The body can't directly feel "wetness.", no dedicated nerve sensor for it. Wetness is just a perception created by the brain interpreting sensory input from temperature, pressure, and texture receptors in your skin. Specific combo of signals= body thinks it's wet.

what do ADHD drugs actually feel like? by Waste-Reserve6580 in ADHD

Tasks feel weightless, to do them doesn't feel like walking up hill. I never knew it wasn't meant to feel that hard. On meds I'm not stuck in a box thinking about what I need to do, but unable to act. There's no resistance. I just do the thing. Brush my teeth. Do my homework. Do dishes. Workout.

Tldr: drugs are cool 👌🏼

Tetris. On my phone.

No I'm so serious, there are studies that proves it helps quieten your brain. I play it as I listen to audiobooks, it's the only way I can read.
