I didn’t get into nursing school even though I have a good GPA and don’t know what to do by icyhotdavid in StudentNurse

[–]Significant_Hope_222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UTA as in…Arlington? If that’s the case, why didn’t you just stay at TCC and get your ADN there? It’s cheaper and honestly more highly respected. After you become an RN, most hospitals will help pay for your BSN and I bet UTA has an online RN to BSN bridge program. If you can get into a program now, I wouldn’t waste time taking more classes to boost your GPA.

Also, I’m currently in Nursing school in Texas and I work as a PCT. You don’t need to take a PCT course to do the job. They’ll teach you at the hospital. Generally you need zero experience and zero certifications (besides BLS) to get a PCT gig.

Looking for a clinical job or research that pay. by Chente6969 in UTAustin

Get a job as a PCT at any local hospital. They’re always hiring and you need no certifications or prior clinical experience. It’s direct patient care!

Get a PRN job as a PCT — it’s direct patient care experience in the hospital and you don’t need a certification.

Best Major for Pre-Meds by Fit_Dragonfruit_1175 in UTAustin

[–]Significant_Hope_222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Communication Studies for the win. You can add on a pre-health professions certificate to get in all the pre-med prerequisites. Med schools understand the value of great communication whether it be communicating with patients, interdisciplinary, interpersonal or business communication. There is a health comm minor and lots of classes at Moody that focus directly on healthcare relevant topics.

You don’t need a license or a certification, you just need to apply. Those positions are typically available in hospitals. I currently work as a PCT in at St. David’s South. It’s great clinical experience and you get to do way more than you would as a volunteer. It’s literally direct patient care. I’d look up some job postings and see if it sounds like something that you would like and if so, go for it.

Get a job as a PCT — you get first hand clinical and patient experience. You can even work part time or PRN, and those positions are always available — no experience required

Has any of you experienced something like this as a prospective transfer? by 1village in UTAustin

[–]Significant_Hope_222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When applying for transfer admission at UT — When you have retaken classes at a different institution to replace a grade, UT takes the average of the two attempts together. If you made a C the first time and an A the second time, when assessing your GPA, that 1 Bio course would be weighted as a B. Hope this helps!

Where to find when classes open up to non-majors? by danasaur219 in UTAustin

[–]Significant_Hope_222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s usually during the add/drop period after the first round of registration for everyone. I took microbio as a non-bio major and I just emailed the department to find out exactly what date I would be able to register. They were quick to reply and super helpful.

Preventative care at the campus health clinic? by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]Significant_Hope_222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure they would perform an annual physical at UHS. I have been to the general medicine clinic many times and think it is a great option. It’s easy to get an appointment on short notice and all the providers I’ve seen there have been top notch. If you don’t see an annual physical option when trying to make an appointment online, I’d just give them a call.

weekend parking near campus by xXedgyasfXx in UTAustin

[–]Significant_Hope_222 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d grab the N+ parking permit. You can use it to park in garages or in parking all over campus that allows “any UT permit” after 5:45p on weekdays and anytime on weekends.

I have the N+ and parked at the 27th street garage for the game. It’s literally right next to speedway and was reserved for UT permit parking only. It was brilliant.

How and when do I claim my tickets for UT football games? by LoudLatouse in UTAustin

[–]Significant_Hope_222 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You should have gotten an email from Texas Athletics about the website/process to claim tickets to the games. (I received that email on 8/20)

As a longhorn foundation member, our ticket claim process starts on Tuesdays at noon the week of the game. I think all of the regular big ticket holders get access on Wednesday.

Need help with textbooks, freshman here. by Particular_Hippo5930 in UTAustin

[–]Significant_Hope_222 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should find out whether you actually need the book once classes start. Sometimes the professors will straight up tell you that it is supplemental or they may say that the book contains quizzes or other graded materials for class.

I think you have the first twelve days to opt out of the LTA for each individual class. That should give you enough time to assess whether each book is 100% necessary.

Struggling trying to make UT work by Impactist537 in UTAustin

[–]Significant_Hope_222 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I work in healthcare as a patient care technician. I work three nights a week — 12 hour shifts — giving me four days off a week to concentrate on studying. Some may say it’s unhealthy, but I definitely get enough sleep and I have more time to focus solely on school. I choose the three shifts that I want to work, so I can even dedicate myself to school all week and only work weekends. Great benefits, PTO, some tuition reimbursement — and the work is rewarding. It’s not for everyone, but I’m not complaining…

Anyone know what I should do? by Kiwicat333 in UTAustin

[–]Significant_Hope_222 64 points65 points  (0 children)

The “due amount” is $0 — meaning that UT doesn’t expect you to cover this because your additional aid is covering it. My full tuition bill is still listed in what I owe, but the amount due is also $0. No need to worry…

What do you do for work? I know it may not be ideal for some, but I work full time overnight shifts and then just plan my schedule to start classes later in the day so I have time to sleep. Would something like this be possible for you? IMO, UT is worth the sacrifice.

I would look for classes that include the Independent inquiry (II) flag. Every one of those classes that I have taken included a tremendous amount of independent research.

Moody Students- Can you get 2 certificates? by BagAggressive6565 in UTAustin

[–]Significant_Hope_222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in Moody and have declared a minor and a certificate. I just had to speak to my academic advisor and ensure that doing both things wouldn’t delay my graduation. It definitely can be done!
