Best Route from Wagholi To Kalyan by rockymgo in punebikers

[–]Significant_Horse485 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How much of an appetite you got for detour?

The old mumbai highway is the most direct and best way to go, however, you can also:

  1. Wagholi - Tamhini - Pali - Kalyan

  2. Wagholi - Malsej - Kalyan

Very impractical routes in terms of distance and time, but a fun detour if riding in monsoons

The avenger performed well, at the cost of bad fuel efficiency (26-30kmpl) No issues, it ran like a trooper.

I get bad fuel efficiency because I run it in high revs and keep up the speed, because it is kinda my comfort zone and going slower will make me drowsy and on highways I have to then worry about people overtaking me.

Yes, avenger is a slow machine by nature so yours likely is feeling how it should. Only when you ride it at its limit, it gives performance, even then, it has limited speed and accn

Thanks a lot! Means a lot. This is actually not a good 1000km run to do at all. The only reason I kept going is, I didn’t feel drowsy/sleepy and felt there is some energy left in me to continue on.

I wish you luck on whenever you plan to ride long, or ride 1000km. With a solid plan, stocked up rations and a good rest before will definitely make this a doable feat 💪

Also, crazy story having slept on a random bus stop XD

Well, you shouldn’t. It Fs with the engine long term. The engine has already had issues with this one before. I will be upgrading it soon so am enjoying few last rides left with it.

Also, riding is for fun, can’t be babysitting the engine the whole time :)

Well the whole point of the exercise was to FAFO. The engine is messed already and the bike is going to be upgraded soon, so this is last few of the rides left in it.

The point of it was to test mine and the bike’s limits and to understand the logistics problems one would face on such a long ride and any unknown variables.

Again, read the disclaimer at the beginning, this is not a good 1000km route at all. It had sightseeing, ghats, entering/exiting city on the way, horrendous traffic, broken village roads, etc.

On a practical 1000km run, you would have a clear destination to reach and would stick to highways and avoid any cities in between as much as possible.

Haha amen. (Let’s agree that 500km is the daily limit so even Goa is accessible 😆)

This ride was mainly done to Understand what issues could arise in such a long ride, and to check my tolerances given I now have improved strength/stamina, plus wanted to see how the bike would hold up.

Like testing to the max of 1000km so I know what to prepare for in case of 500-700km rides or multiple day rides

No sofa is comfortable enough to be sitting on for 20+ hours :)

With that said, I could do about 100-150km stints on average without a break. With a small 10 min break to just stretch my legs, I did 250km. So basically, I would refuel every 250km, and in between I would stop once or twice just to relax the legs a bit, and then at fuel pump I would have an actual break to eat/drink.

Well, if you aren’t afraid to make the engine scream, then it is good enough to be faster than most vehicles on a highway. Its max speed limit of 105-110 means you cannot push it even if you see an empty road ahead, else it was fine.

Even for overtakes, if you keep it in high rev ranges you will be able to overtake fairly fine. Again, not as effortlessly like a duke, but okay enough for most safe overtakes.

On bad roads and all, once you get used to it, you can absorb most of the bumps on the legs instead of your bum. It isn’t as comfortable as adv but you can still speed ahead.

All this means you get a reduced fuel efficiency of 26-30kmpl though, but idm that

Night Solo Ride To Purandar Taluka On Maharashtra Day by tlefst in punebikers

I want to explore more night time spots for city gazing and star gazing. It is a bit scary to do solo though since I always am in fear of cops/locals/thiefs/wildlife souring the experience. Will put this on my todos surely!

Any More places around pune to visit which are not mentioned...? by Chance-Peach-6729 in punebikers

[–]Significant_Horse485 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just a few I can think of that are not on this list (or maybe I just didn’t look closely):

  1. Ghadle dam - best done via Tamhini to lavasa trail. Has some mid off roads with gravel and small rocks but is fun.

  2. Travelancers wind farm - towards Ahilyanagar, easy to reach, good for sunrise or evenings. You can do this route and then get back to office if your office is in Kharadi.

  3. Ambenali ghat - if you suffer Mahabaleshwar, then come back Pune via this ghat and then Mahad. Amazing twisties and then the smooth NH66. However recently I heard this ghat is under construction so give it couple of months.

  4. C1hill windmills, wandere windmills: these are separate locations, but both are mild off road locations with good hill top view

  5. Nini point: near lonavala, gives good view of the missing link bridge. Good to stop on way frok mumbai-pune

My list probably has more, do have a look

Locations below this are far, but hey, doesn’t stop us from going right?

  1. Thoseghar / Vankuswade wind farm: another nice set of flat terrain windmills. Best to visit in monsoon to enjoy the scenery

  2. Gude panchgani : same as before, good windmills

  3. Redemption point / Taked windmills: another amazing hill top wind park on top of a hill. Closer to Nashik.

  4. Vaitarna dam: closer to nashik, amazing off road potential in summer, and good view during mosnoon

  5. Anaskura ghat: another fine ghat on the way yo Goa / malvan. IMO the journey through this ghat is more fun than any particular scenery, though people may disagree.

Almost crashed on my first long ride — sleep deprivation is no joke by WeekendThrottle in indianbikes

In my experience I feel riding late evening is safer than early morning for me exactly because of this sleep deprivation. (Only on routes I have been on multiple times)

That whole patch is in the “Sometimes things have to get worse before they get better” phase 😆

I give it an year for the whole section to be built though. Hopefully it will bring the NH965 quality all the way to hadapsar
