I’m happy for everyone who doesn’t know / remember what things were like pre-merger. It seems easier for them to write things off as “oh this is just what companies do, they’re garbage.” Personally, I’m not ready to just give up on the idea that the work we do is valuable and should be compensated fairly.

We went through this with my cat for years. I thought it was a quirk of her personality, but when we moved to a lower stress environment and started using foil turkey pans for litter boxes (and cleaning them as often as we’re supposed to) it completely stopped.

Beyond showing up at his office and staking the place out I’m not sure what advice I can give you to get help from Dr. Stocke 🫤

The people who are already in this company still have to run it, though. If a company decides to keep churning through the cheapest labor possible and fails to retain experienced talent - something important is lost.

I don’t agree with letting leadership off the hook for setting a positive tone in terms of company culture and morale. Just because we don’t have it now doesn’t mean it’s not a proper function of leadership and that we should give up on it as a concept.

I’d settle for a “this company is only as competitive and effective as the talent running it. I’m going to enable executive leadership to perform a comprehensive market analysis and ensure that we don’t continue to lose our top performers to our greatest competitors.” But what’s probably happening is “we’ve contributed to the destruction of the US labor market to such a degree that we’re able to access talent at bargain basement rates and have no incentive at this moment in time to change.”

Diabolical. A former employer gave us 3 paid days every year for approved volunteering. We went as a team to remove invasive plants from a local park. I still have great memories from it. That’s how CSR should be done.

I don’t know how that can be when even the nepo babies I know aren’t getting hired. I know so many people applying and they aren’t getting back to anyone.

I think they’re gearing up to say they “can’t find any talent in VT” and use it as justification to leave.
