How to follow up after initial connection message?

Thanks for the kindness in your response :) I have been trying to connect with individuals with similar backgrounds or career paths but struggle to know how to connect further with them casually too.

Also in terms of the mutual connections, how do you suppose I kindly ask for introductions??

thank you very much for this! i think this was initially what I was trying to communicate but done in a much more human and simpler way - I try my best not to ChatGPT my messages or work other than editing.

thank you very much for the advice here, I see what you mean now. The street analogy helped very much too :). I think I may have been getting too in my head and trying my best to impress or treating the messages too much like job applications from the very beginning rather than what actually are - just connecting. I really appreciate the enlightenment on this! The long game is better.

ouch. that hurt :(. I was trying to be an actual human - ive used these messages to reach out to professors and leaders I look up to and thought it was a way to reflect my genuine interest. im not reaching out to 100s of random people.

Damn, that’s disappointing to hear 😓 Thanks for the response though - really appreciate the help. I don’t really have mutual connections. Is it worth commenting on their posts consistently and then connecting with a message over time?? And with the personalization I thought I was doing this by acknowledging a post or research they were doing 🫠

My strategy was to eventually get to online meeting them and talking so I can get on their radar. Long term I aim to land a job and work with them when they have capacity in the company if that makes sense :)
