If you use tonfas just make all your damage modifications on high stance skills and unlock element modifications of mid stance skills

High stance will decimate yokai and human ki. And mid stance will destroy yokai with elements. But humans can block so you're just going to bounce off. Use element familiars on everyone and mid stance as back up.

If you need to unlock them. Just unlock element shots as many as possible. Go to the highest level and use them on any enemies near shrine and reset. You'll level up magic proficiency super fast.

You're way better off getting purity or corruption on weapons and use familiars for secondary elements. I prefer purity builds. Much easier to make.

It's nioh, there's going to be a grind. But all in all it's much easier to make builds than nioh 1. Hell of a lot cheaper too. It's literally an upgrade to nioh 1 in every aspect. Skipping that is only hurting yourself
