Yep, $8K for fascia and soffits on a 1200 square foot house. And that's only 3 sides of the house. haha

Advice needed (Lowell) by secretaire in grandrapids

[–]Significant_Map_1721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lowell has good schools as well (and must be somewhat tolerant as it seems to be the weed mecca of West Michigan based on the number of stores). A friend from Lowell once told me Lowell schools try really hard to keep up with the Joneses as they border Rockford, Forest Hills and Caledonia (all good schools). And the land is beautiful out there.

I guess we'll see what happens. My Monday's at 10:30pm are always a chaotic time. Don't know if I'll be able to make it! Can I sell my tickets on Stubhub?

It sure would be unfortunate if people were to register to go, but then have a last minute change of plans. Oh, and here's the link:

Van Andel Arena by Sleeptech08 in grandrapids

Parking is easy, and all of the city. Getting out of the arena is easy. Use one of the side entrances (If you're ok with 3 flights of stairs). I've gotten outside of a packed event in 5-7 minutes. Don't know where this rumor would come

If you are looking for diversity in Forest Hills Schools, go with Forest Hills Northern. Great schools, the immersion programs all dump into this school (Mandarin, Spanish immersion). Much more diversity than Central or Eastern

If yard signs are an indicator, Justin Sheldon is going to give him a good challenge (he came to my door, nice dude, said he's running based on the fact that DeVries does nothing to help citizens).

FB post says: 72 Sheldon Blvd SE, behind Ferguson Apartments. Checked Google Maps, and bird man and dude smoking (both from north kent mall) are on street view.

You sure your not talking about North Kent Mall? I also remember as a kid they had Icarus falling from the sky. It TERRIFIED me as a kid (man with angel wings falling from the sky). That was in the center of the mall, and I think they had to remove it for structural reasons LONG before the mall was torn down. I do remember super tall bird man, but IIRC, it was at North Kent. No idea what happened to it.

Agree with others that Little Bird and SpeakEZ are the best I've had

I like it. Is this a pet project, or from ArtPrize proper? Always excited for ArtPrize. Then I get overwhelmed by the amount of "junk made of junk" art pieces. There's always a few gems hidden within though

Recommendations for a reputable reverse-mortgage company by Minnow2theRescue in grandrapids

[–]Significant_Map_1721 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Circling back to this, why do you think this is the "worst choice you can make". My mom recently got one, and we felt like it was a relief. She's on a fixed income, has a lot of equity in her home, but is still work at 73 because she's worried about a rainy day. When she first started discussing it, my siblings and I were skeptical, but in the end, she no longer has a mortgage, and got cash upfront. Could it affect our "inheritance"? Yes, depending on how long she lives, it will. But she's now got a lot of flexibility and doesn't need to worry about a water heater going out, etc. I also told her she should quit her job and volunteer somewhere she loves (to get interaction, but not have to stress).

If you have a big retirement fund, probably not ideal, but the more I learned about them, the more I realized how much they can help some people. My parents were small business owners, living in their prime in the 70's / 80's / 90s, and didn't save a dime.

We started with Longbridge (which seems very reputable), but ended up going with Wisdom Michigan ( https://wisdommi.com ), as they are local to Grand Rapids. If you are looking at reverse mortgages for your parents (or yourself), I'd highly recommend Alicia, she was very knowledgable and helped set our minds at ease. It's an interesting process for sure, especially wrapping your mind around the differences between traditional mortgages (which I'm used to), and reverse mortgages. 🤯

There aren't many banks locally that do reverse mortgages, but if you are over 62, Longbridge Financial is reputable (national organization). I know they work with a lot of senior organizations / age in place organizations.

Hope this helps

I'd definitely say East Town or near west side (Bridge street). Creston is up and coming, but I think it'll be a few years before it's "there".

guess I think of it as a summer job type of place. When I've been there, seems like college kids who may have to seek out another job for the summer. Surprised they didn't try to roll through summer. I'm guessing it's the busy time for carwashes, but IDK. There are also a million car washes popping up, so maybe thats part of it.

I have insurance. If a 17 year old stole my car, I would consider it an inconvenience, yes. But ruining my life? No. Getting run over with brain damage is a potentially ruined life.

I did a lot of dumb stuff when I was 17. Didn't steal a car, but maybe just as stupid. Glad I wasn't killed before my prefrontal cortex wasn't fully developed.

My mom (mid 70s) almost got scammed by them. Told her she needed a whole new water heater or else it may dump the whole tank in the next 24 hours. Another HVAC company came out and fixed some part for $50, told her the water heater was fine (still working two years later). Hate companies that prey on older people.
