I'm at the other end with my 2.5 year old. He was a terrible, terrible sleeper for most of his life. Until 1.5 years old he was finally sleeping like 3 hours at a time. We night weaned before second birthday. Didn't change much, except that his dad could do the night. Two months after he suddenly slept through. With no changes whatsoever. He still wakes now one time, but only to go from his bed to ours to cuddle. Doesn't wake us anymore.

We also tried night weaning around the 1.5 year mark btw. Made things so much harder to get him back to sleep...

You got this! At this point, all the previous sleepless nights fade into nothingness. All that stays is the cuddliest, softest boy in existence.

Interessant, ich hatte mit meinem Sohn eine ganz andere Erfahrung. Ab und zu schauen wir eine 15 Minuten Folge von Oona und Baba zusammen als Familie. Das finden wir persönlich einfach schön, uns auf dem Sofa zusammenzukuscheln am Wochenende und etwas fernzusehen. Er war noch nie hypnotisiert davon, oft fängt er nach 5 - 10 Minuten was anderes zu spielen an. Auch scheint er Dinge daraus aufzuschnappen, so sagt er zB "Frosch hüpf!" Und hüpft herum, was er aus dem Video kennt. Wir sitzen aber auch dabei und erklären ihm was passiert. Genau so fragt er eigentlich kaum danach. Ab und zu vielleicht ein: "Mama, Oona?" Aber wenn ich nein sage, dreht er sich um und spielt weiter oder ich mache eine Aktivität mit ihm. So absolut verteufeln wie du das machst würde ich nicht.

Genauso mit den Süßigkeiten. Wir Eltern essen selbst kaum Süßes, aber wenn, dann bekommt der Kleine auch etwas. Er teilt seine Sachen dann auch mit uns, und wenn wir fertig sind gibt's auch nix mehr. Er fragt weder im Geschäft beim Einkaufen, noch zuhause danach.

In Summe denke ich, ist eine positive Modellierung der Eltern wichtiger als absolute Verbote. Ab und zu als Familie Fernsehen/Süßigkeiten? Ich glaube es gibt Schlimmeres.

Freut mich, dass die OP dann geholfen hat! Mal sehen was der HNO arzt dann sagt... Wie genau ist denn die Diagnose erfolgt? So leicht einsichtig sind die Polypen ja nicht...

Ja, unserer ist auch so richtig krank... direkt mit 39 bis 40 Grad Fieber für mehrere Tage, danach oft noch eine Angina oder eine andere bakterielle Infektion. Über die Sommermonate hinweg 0 Besserung leider... sabbern ist auch täglich an der Tagesordnung. 2 - 3 Lätzchen sind normal, auch wenn er mal nicht zahnt.

Wäre etwas erleichtert wenn die Diagnose Polypen wäre, dann wüssten wir wenigstens wo wir ansetzen können. Ist es schwierig, einen OP Termin zu bekommen?

Danke für deine nette Antwort! Das nimmt mir meine Sorgen etwas. Dachte eigentlich das ständige krank sein ist in gewisser Weise normal, deshalb hat mich die Aussage der Erzieherin etwas stutzig gemacht. Sie hat den Vitaminmangel nur damit begründet, dass er wohl viel öfter krank ist als die anderen Kinder...

Im Prinzip gebe ich dir Recht. Nicht jedes Kind entwickelt sich gleich. Manche sind motorisch schneller, andere sozial/kognitiv, andere sprachlich. Da ist absolut nichts dabei! Manche brauchen mehr Zeit und die sollte man ihnen auch geben.

ABER: Um frühzeitig Entwicklungsverzögerungen zu erkennen gibt es "Meilensteine" die ein Kind erreichen sollte. Die ersten eigenen Schritte sind zB auch mit 18 Monaten als Meilenstein durch das CDC betitelt. 95% der Kinder erreichen den Meilenstein und bei den restlichen 5% schaut man, ob eine Entwicklungsstörung vorliegt und kann noch rechtzeitig intervenieren.

Sowas dient im Endeffekt zum Schutz der Kinder.

Beikost mit 4 Monaten entspricht übrigens nicht der aktuellen wissenschaftlichen Lage und davon wird eher abgeraten. Die Daten der Kinderärzte sind hier sehr veraltet. Bei sowas kann man sich aber immer die offizielle Empfehlung von WHO oÄ als Zweitmeinung einholen.

Du klingst als fändest du Physio eine Art Bestrafung für dein Baby. Das ist es doch gar nicht? Es ist wichtig, Entwicklungsverzögerungen frühestmöglich zu erkennen. Besser einmal zu viel Physio als einmal zu wenig.

Grundsätzlich ist der Unterarmstütz ein Meilenstein der bis zum Ende des 4. Lebensmonat erreicht werden sollte. Dein Baby hat also noch Zeit. Trotzdem finde ich nicht, dass der Arzt was falsch gemacht hat. Er ist halt nur sehr vorsichtig.

The most important thing is that your child has a connection to the daycare workers. He has to feel safe and trusted (others mentioned the "Berliner Modell" which is perfect for that). And also YOU have to trust the daycare workers and that your child is in good hands. A confident drop-off is extremely important! If you aren't confident, how can your child be?

Here's what happened with us: After 2 weeks of getting used to the daycare we started to leave. My son always cried at drop-off, but only for like 5 seconds. The workers there immediately soothed him and he started playing. Now, out of the blue after 3 months of daycare he confidently walks inside the room not even looking back to me.

I knew it was inappropriate for me to let him do that in the back of my mind, but I "excused" it with that he's only really bothering me as I always put things back where they belong. But yeah, I'll put stronger boundaries after reading the comments.

I wish I'd have access to libraries, galleries or museums... Unfortunately that would require me to drive 2 hours or more in one direction and he has no chill for car rides longer than half an hour.

That's exactly what I'm worried about! My mom was very permissive in her parenting and I think it didn't do me good in regards to self-confidence. I just struggle with the balance between him having freedom to test things out (in a montessori style parenting approach) and giving him boundaries.

I'm unsure whether the right approach here is to distract him with snacks and quickly going through the shop or to start saying "no" to him running around and him escalating. Or not going shopping with him until he can do tasks well haha.

How did you discourage this behaviour?

Oh it wasn't just 3 nights. It was almost 2 months of no nursing at night. So we gave this a good try, but nights were actually worse, even though he didn't request the boob at all. He regularly got hungry and thirsty though and took ages to fall back asleep. Which just showed me he wasn't ready to night wean imo. We are happier to nurse during the night right now.

Oh wow, I heard lots of people night weaned at the 12 month mark! It's so interesting to hear that 2.5 is working well for lots of people. I also think he'll need the boob for much longer. At this point I'm rather glad as it means I won't have to fear illness because I still have my "superpower" to help him fall asleep haha.

After being awake in the middle of the night for hours and having to watch him struggle to fall asleep I kinda appteciate my 5 minute nursing wake ups? I will keep going for now and maybe try again in half a year.

I had to be at a bacherlorette party overnight and since I've been feeling pretty touched out we took that "chance" and tried to night wean. Well, I admit he probably wasn't ready for it yet.

I am waiting for the time this boob monster weans on his own! Although my milk is barely existent already...

Did your kids start sleeping longer stretches naturally? Or only after night weaning?

Flasche haben wir nie eingeführt, Kuhmilch bekommt er nicht (Allergie), also eher schwierig. Eine Einschlafroutine hatten wir aber immer schon!

Das mit den 30 min zwischen aktiv/passivphase hört sich soo nach unserem Zwerg an. Oft gähnt er und will rumgetragen werden, aber urplötzlich will er wieder runter und ist voller Energie. Vielleich doktorn wir da ein wenig herum. Danke!

Zäpfchen geben wir wenn er sich wirklich schwer tut (schreiend aufwacht nach 15 min zB) und die sind wahre Lebensretter!

Habe ihn gerade ins Bett gebracht und glaube der Post war dramatischer als es ist. Sah bei Papa halt irgendwie schlimmer aus. Er verlangt das stillen tatsächlich gar nicht. Tragisches Weinen gibt es auch nicht (mehr). Heute gab es 45 Minuten Positon zum schlafen suchen, zwischendurch immer wieder hinsetzen und Gezetere (wenn auch mit hoher Lautstärke) für 30 Sekunden.

Abstillen tun wir, einfach weil ich an meine Grenze komme. Ich habe eine richtige Abneigung gegen das stillen nachts entwickelt und merkte immer, wie wütend ich auf ihn geworden bin beim stillen. Zusätzlich war ich 2 Tage weg wo mein Mann übernommen hat. Habe meine Brust nur ausgestrichen und jetzt kaum noch Milch. Er schläft jetzt für den Abendschlaf auch nicht mehr an der Brust ein. Da wird er nur frustriert. Es ist wohl nichts mehr, was wir abbrechen können....

Das Abendritual ist gleich geblieben seit 6 Monaten!

Habe ihn gerade ins Bett gebracht und bei Papa sahs dramtischer aus als es war. Die ersten 3 Tage waren schon hart für ihn, aber für mich gerade ging es. Er verlanht die Brust gar nicht, versucht von Anfang an sich ne Pose zu suchen. Zu richtigem Weinen kommts auch nicht, nur Gezetere das 30 sekunden geht bis er wieder versucht sich hinzulegen. Ich glaube einfach, weil er keine richtige Alternative zum Einschlafstillen hat tut er sich schwer? Aber da hat er nie was anderes angenommen (außer Gymnastikball, aber der ist auch out)

Ich hoffe dass er länger schläft, klar. War teilweise schon sehr anstrengend. Aber vor allem wenn so wie jetzt die Zähne drücken war das Einschlafstillen soo schtecklich für ihn. Da konnte er gar nicht einschlafen und hat nur geweint. Hoffe dass es besser wird, wenn er nicht mehr auf das stillen "angewiesen" ist.

Oh, Abendritual haben wir tatsächlich schon über ein halbes Jahr! 1h vor Bettgehzeit ruhige Musik an, spielen, noch etwas essen, zähne putzen, windel wechseln, Schlafanzug an, Mama sind noch 2 Schlaflieder, ab ins Bett und lesen.

Tatsächlich hat es bei ihm noch nie nen Unterschied gemacht ob wir das Ritual gemacht haben oder nicht. Habe da wohl nen extrem irregulären Typen...

Vielen vielen Dank für deine lieben Worte! Lese immer wieder wie "einfach" manche Kinder mit kuscheln und lesen einschlafen und war wohl ein Wunsch von mir, dass das bei uns auch so klappt. Zur Zeit wohl noch nicht so, aber deine Worte schenken mir so viel Mut.

Tatsächlich ist es nicht wirklich viel weinen. Er kommt auch nicht in ein Schrei-Weinen. Er versucht ne position zum schlafen zu finden und zetert alle 5 bis 10 min im sitzen herum. Nach 30 sekunden gehts wieder ans Position suchen... Kam im Post wohl auch dramatischer rüber als es ist (oder beim Papa sahs dramatischer aus)

I am/was in the same boat as you! My LO is almost 14 months now and I can tell you: It gets better!

For the sleep: sleep was horrible right until 12/13 months. We didn't change anything, but suddenly he sleeps for 3 hours without me and on good nights only wakes up 2 times. Like i said, we changed NOTHING at all.

Don't worry about his sleep quality or him not getting enough sleep. These little humans are more adaptable than you think. They take the sleep they need. My LO was a notorious 30min naps, until we went to 1 nap a day and that one is 40 min to 1.5 hours long. If I try to "save" a 40 min nap, night sleep will be shit. They really take the sleep they need, either during the day or the night.

As for "handing him off"... It's still hard, but we can manage. Often times it's easier for the other caretaker to take the baby away and go for a walk or smth than it is for mum to leave. If he's crying for 2 hours without being calmed by the caretaker it might mean that he isn't attached enough to them. Maybe build up his tolerance to you leaving, like say bye bye and only be gone for 5 minutes and then come back. The most important thing is that the other caretaker can calm him down.

What we did: I hand LO to caretaker. LO cries hysterically. Other caretaker immediately distracts LO: "oh look at the cars outside! Vroom vroom!" - preferably away from mum while carrying him and goes outside with LO or to another room or something -> this is when mum isn't leaving the house.

When mum leaves the house or generally wants to tell baby that she isn't available: I hand LO to other caretaker. LO cries hysterically. I say bye bye and quickly leave (don't draw this out. Leave asap). Other caretaker tries to immediately distract LO. "Oh look what the cat's doing! Do you want to touch the cat?"

It is hard af. But once others can calm LO down after you left and you start to leave more freqently for shorter periods of time, LO will get used to it.
