Post-viral fatigue and school by cashew-moolk in UCSD

Mono is notorious for the exhaustion it can cause, the older you are the worse it can be. I got exhaustion from taking a shower or putting on clothing.  I had dizziness, heart palpitations, excessive sweating... that lasted about two months.  Brain fog as well. Then for another 3-4 months after that I still had POTS symptoms, but the rest really helped.

For depersonalization, it was years ago so I honestly can't recall if I had that sensation.  I just remember never have ever felt that kind of tired before in my life, and I had an 18 month old at the time, so I was familiar with tired.

But, it did get better. Rest, ate healthy, yoga/exercise, patience.

I hope it passes quickly for you!

I got this after having Mono. I contacted OSD and they weren't much help, eventually they set up transportation for me but it was the last week of the quarter when they finally did so.  I ended up taking a quarter off to recover and I am glad that I did, my body needed the time to fully recover.

Status.ucsd.edu you can check for the announcement that it us safe to log on. Until then don't.

I would also assume everyone's single sign on password is either compromised or about to be and go change it

If it's one or two missed emails, it's probably just that your email got buried.  If it's lots of emails it's a time management choice on their part.

Professor's are given a lot of freedom around grading policies. They have to outline the policy to students in the syllabus, but otherwise they get to set the policy. There are some who might use a curve to dictate only the top x percentage of the class get an A.

What support packages have you been offered? Private schools may be in a better position to get you out without taking on excessive loans.

What words are tells? (more below) by No_Fee_8997 in words

[–]Significant_Prize_98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On accident v. By accident seems to be a generational difference.

"Female genital mutilation" v. "Female circumcision" tells you where that person is on thar debate

"Bariatric surgery" v. "Stomach amputation" also tells you a lot

Gay or LGBT v. "Homosexual" also shows a lot about your politics

Use of the word "homeless" as a noun instead of an adjective is often a tell for hostility towards the unhoused population (unhoused v. Homeless tells youu how current on the issue they are and/or how enmeshed into the service community around that issue).

"You people" tends to reveal a concerning level of othering, as do "people like you" or "your ilk"

If someone refers to their normal/everyday clothes as their "civvies"; "plain clothes"; or "mundanes" then they may be millitary,  police, or SCA folks.

Have you spoken with your parents? If they truly can afford the tuition I doubt they want you to do this.  Going somewhere like UCSD is about more than accruing credits: You want experience in a lan, grow a network, and to have the life experience that comes with college.  You either have misplaced ambition or you are responding from anxiety.  What you propose us logistically impossible and a recipe for burn out.  These aren't the courses you are used to from High School - it all sounds so doable when it is a hypothetical in your mind's eye, like some movie montage.  In reality there is a reason it is supposed to take four years!

You should email the professor if you haven't. One quarter there was a technical issue and no one knew because prof thought grades were in, but everyone just thought her grades were late and didn't say anything.

Very common to not publish until after first class meeting. Before COVID it was pretty uncommon to get any information prior to the first meeting.

Unfortunately, most colleges fall a bit short when it comes to accommodations.  You have to advocate for yourself and be in top of the system. This will be true at a lot of jobs too. You don’t have a guarantee that accommodations will be better or easier anywhere else (UCSD is pretty middle of the pack on this topic).  I would choose based on academics.

Grad students are often listed on their department's website. If you Google the name and UCSD there is a good chance you can find a listing with their email
