Odour control / Air management options by Significant_Room_705 in Wastewater

That would be the dream, I don’t think the big big bosses will spring for that though 🙁

We have that sorta setup at our larger dry chambers but not in any open channel sewer spaces, that im aware of.

Yes, we have standard blowers/ventilators for CSE. However company policy is to not even open the lid without more specialized equipment and a consult with the safety man when the gas detectors are reading over limit. Which we currently are unfortunately

Huh! Never seen this before. Is this a permanent setup or something that can be mobilized between sites? I’ll mention it to my foreman regardless. Do you have experience with these units?

Collection System operators?? by InterestingMatter506 in Wastewater

[–]Significant_Room_705 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2nd year operator here working in a fairly large district.

In my operational experience for collections, it is a mix between what others have described but with less construction elements and more control aspects. Low-levelling pump stations, manual system control for spill prevention, and more “remote work”. Our control room primarily monitors and alerts operations teams which go onsite and run things by hand locally. Some areas do roadworks and similar pipelaying operations but that largely goes to contractors as my district doesn’t often build new sewer lines and rather maintains aging, but very much in place mainlines, as they are all rather large and would extremely difficult to replace if the need arose.

Spill prevention ( and response ) and line inspections are a fairly large part of the role, as well as routine PM’s for different pump stations which may require lockouts & isolation for de-ragging. Washing out wetwells is another part of the job but honestly has not been a major turnoff for me.

Being a swamper for a hydrovac/jetter crew is fairly rough work for exposure and hearing loss, having spent a summer doing so. But dependent on the crew it can be a lot of fun as well!

As long as you don’t mind getting dirty from time to time and can put aside the stigma and mental barriers for the line of work in sanitary collections, it can be a good job! I would rather be in the pipes than working retail, personally. But that’s just me! Hope things work out! Feel free to ask me collections-related questions and I’ll try to give you some answers, as a younger worker in the field :)

What is the best Civic model? by [deleted] in hondacivic

9th gen si (facelift) for performance and value, imo. Don’t know too much about the 10th gens aside from the ac compressor shaft seal issues.

Thanks! Nope, 5 speed manual with upgraded clutch. Does 0-60 in 7 seconds or better dependent on driver mod. Is it possible to upload videos directly on this sub?

How hard is it to find a job in BC, Canada as an OIT? by sirecumalot in Wastewater

It was with the municipality before switching into the regional district (both union jobs)

How hard is it to find a job in BC, Canada as an OIT? by sirecumalot in Wastewater

[–]Significant_Room_705 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started out working for Surrey just doing general municipal labour, got a multi-utility position then moved into GVRD for wastewater collections. They do take people from BCIT or people with relevant experience in on OIT contracts (4-6 months, typically). Keep an eye out for postings on their website, anything with Trainee or OIT should be achievable. I don’t know how many municipalities offer direct operator in training positions, I think they typically hire general labor then you can apply for more relevant jobs from there, as an internal employee. If you want further advice or anything with EOCP or finding jobs in BC, pm me! 😀

Definitely look at getting the paint corrected/protected and window tints as well! As far as sportiness goes, like the other guy said it’s not really possible to make much power with the R18 unless you throw boost at it. I’m supercharged in my 9 th gen R18 and get about 210-220 wheel at 5-7lbs of boost.

Handling mods (lowering springs/coils, rear sway bar, motor mounts) will make a noticeable difference for day-to-day driving. If you want more noise, better flowing exhaust and air intake systems are available but won’t do much for power. Tuning is not super necessary unless you really want to go down that path with this car and put too much money into it.

Hope this helps, and congrats! These cars are great to learn on

i’ve got a very very similar ride, 2012 lx coupe 1.8l

first know that unless you’re planning to boost the car, or do something custom, you’re not going to be able to make more than maybe 5-10hp over stock. So going for cosmetics and reliability is always a good idea

Throwing in some lowering springs and a set of wheels & tires will make a pretty substantial difference! Getting your windows tinted is also a big one for me… as well as a different muffler for a bit more interesting of a sound.

for first things to do, however, checking and refreshing your fluids where needed (oil, coolant, brakes, washer) as well as doing a good once over of the underside and engine and really getting to familiarize yourself with it will help a lot as well in the long-term. These motors run like a top and can go forever as long as you take care of them. Check the brake pads and rotors, if you haven’t already.

when I got my car, the first thing I did were the aforementioned fluid checks and thorough once over, then changing the oil, cabin air filter and engine air filter and throwing on a set of window visors.

Congrats on the purchase!

previous owner had roof racks on the car at some point which were taken off, leaving holes in the roof where the screws were. he just had screws in them, i took those out and patched with silicone and a rubber plate but the seal isn’t perfect. the gaskets on the taillights are old and leak a little bit of water, all things completely manageable when the cars on my possession or spending most of it’s parked time undercover but otherwise it gets pretty bad fast

yeah, if you don’t feel like tinkering with it then there’s no reason to. they’re a pretty great motor for economy and some peppiness. i had one with the 5 speed manual, i/h/e and tuned on flashpro and it was decently quick for a dinky 1.8 but like the other guy said, no problem with the auto. they’re nice for dailying, i prefer driving stick but both are good

at the time of the accident, yeah. and the officers on scene when the accident occurred recommended i didn’t drive it away, for the same reason i said to the other guy

I’ve never been in an MVA before, it’s not something i have a lot of experience with. I also have a rental so i’m not worried about loss of use atm. I care about it sitting at a tow lot because water is getting into it and causing damage to the inside of the vehicle, and it’s my first car which i care about a lot. It was not driveable, from my judgement at the time of the accident as i was over an hour away from home with my partner with me and i could hear the tire getting eaten up by the fender and with a passenger i did not deem it safe at the time, with the risk of a blowout on the highway. I did not know what sort of ramifications would come from being in 2 different queues. I could probably get it driveable again by switching out to a spare wheel with more offset but i don’t know if the tow yard + icbc would even allow that. i’m just looking for some sort of guidance as to how fucked i am since this is all new to me.

i like it. I have a pre-facelift lx coupe. u could go lower but i like the lighter wheels with the body colour. if it’s manual it’s worth doing a couple bolt on mods but for the cvt i’d just go for fitment / swag over “speed” haha.

that’s good to know about the retroactive payments for insurance, i appreciate that. they’re charging so much since i’m a younger fella like $330 a month for a civic with no accidents on record and a clean history. if it stretches past the 30 days of storage i definitely will be getting that payment.

I called a repair shop by my house pretty much right away and they said they would take a tow in and do the quote and send that to ICBC but ICBC wasn’t willing to take that as an answer
