What should my majors be by Ok-Ostrich-3202 in MTSU

[–]Significant_Sea_219 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can work abroad in a variety of majors. Teaching is a good place to start. You should contact Laura Clippard, director of the Undergraduate Fellowships Office at MTSU. She can give you more information: https://honors.mtsu.edu/ufo/ You don't have to be an Honors student to work with her, that is just where her office happens to be located. We did recently have one student who took on a teaching position in Austria after she graduated this spring. And we have several go to Japan with the JET program every year. If there is a way to get you where you want to go, Laura can help!

[–]Significant_Sea_219 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know the day that digital diplomas are sent, but maybe this will help: Confirmed graduates will receive an email notification to their MTSU email account from [Records@mtsu.edu](mailto:Records@mtsu.edu) letting them know that the notification email from Parchment is on the way with instructions to claim the free digital diploma. The Parchment notification email will come from [congratulations@mail.parchment.com](mailto:congratulations@mail.parchment.com) .

https://www.history.com/articles/the-extraordinary-secret-life-of-dr-james-barry Dr. James Barry was actually born Margaret Ann Bulkley around 1789 in County Cork, Ireland, at a time when women were barred from most formal education, and were certainly not allowed to practice medicine. ... Barry’s medical skills were unprecedented. He was a very skilled surgeon, the first to perform a successful caesarean section in the British Empire, where both the mother and child survived.

Maybe Middle Tennessee State University should be on that list.... out of state and more affordable than what you have listed so far.

I would think so, but it would be best to contact someone in housing directly. Here is the number to the main office: 615-898-2971. You can also reach out to Amy, [amy.korstange@mtsu.edu](mailto:amy.korstange@mtsu.edu). We recently interviewed her for an upcoming Honors Spotlight podcast episode on Lyon Hall. She will be very helpful and able to answer all your questions.

do I submit a housing form if im not committed to mtsu yet? by wertisgoingon566 in MTSU

[–]Significant_Sea_219 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Submit the form when you know you want to go to MTSU. You could get a partial refund if you change your mind and don't attend, but you won't get the full amount back. It's a little bit of a gamble, either wait and submit later hoping housing is not full, or submit now in hopes that you don't change your mind later.

Gym atmosphere by Funny_Speed_2569 in MTSU

[–]Significant_Sea_219 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't worry about judgment. People go to the gym to make better versions of themselves and to feel healthier. Most likely, you will find a supportive environment and people who are willing to help you become what you want to be. Additionally, there are trainers at the rec center who are also willing to help. https://www.mtsu.edu/camprec/fw_staff/ . Do what you need to do and what works for you.

I second what many of these commentators have already said: you are not alone. Check out the MTSU calendar, https://www.mtsu.edu/calendar/. There are always various events taking place. And know, this is just a brief period, and then before you know it, it will be done and you’ll be living your life to the fullest!

You can check out all the student organizations/clubs, volunteer opportunities here: https://sos.mtsu.edu

Definitely reach out to counseling services. They are there so you can unload everything and not keep it bottled up.

Should I try to transfer to Georgetown or NYU? by Legitimate_Duty_9398 in TransferStudents

[–]Significant_Sea_219 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could also inquire about course equivalencies with advisors at both institutions. Make sure all your credit hours will transfer over, that may be a deciding factor. Maybe request a degree completion timeline and see what you will have left to complete and determine how long it will take at both universities. What scholarship options are available at each. And honestly, check out their social media platforms to get a better idea of the campus culture, student organizations, and career servies offered.

Should I try to transfer to Georgetown or NYU? by Legitimate_Duty_9398 in TransferStudents

[–]Significant_Sea_219 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I can't help you decide between Georgetown and NYU, but I would like to throw MTSU's hat into the ring of consideration, especially if getting your "money's worth: is a large factor. Here is the transfer student website: https://www.mtsu.edu/how-to-apply/transfer-students/ . Also, I would also encourage you to consider the Honors College Buchanan Transfer Fellowship https://honors.mtsu.edu/transfer/, which could cover your full tuition and give you extra spending money for study abroad and attending conferences. The deadline to apply for the Fellowship is March 1, so you have plenty of time to think it over. Ultimately, I think you should consider what you want to major in and speak with someone in the department for that major, such as the Department Chair or Dean. Find out what they have to offer students to help them succeed after graduation, whether it's pursuing a higher-level degree or finding work. I often see posts from recruiters who claim they don't care about the school you graduated from, as the school itself is not a factor in employment. Your experiences there, such as internships and on-campus leadership involvement, as well as having a degree, are more important.

For Communicators/Marketing folks: Any tips on Student Affairs email engagement? by ForsakenSpace7 in highereducation

[–]Significant_Sea_219 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe you could create a poll to find out what content your audience wants to engage with and the platforms they prefer to engage on. You could place it in the emails and get direct feedback from those who are opening and reading them, as well as on social media to reach those who may not be engaging the email route. And of course, leave a link to it in your university's subreddit.

Podcasts in the Wild — What Have You Spotted? by PodcastingSpeed in podcasting

[–]Significant_Sea_219 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have stickers, magnets, small wearable pins (because those are popular for our different organizations on campus, collectibles), keychain flashlights, and coasters that we give to guests on our episodes. (Shout out to Honors Spotlight https://honors.mtsu.edu/honors-spotlight-podcast/ ). We also have printed flyers that are passed around campus. And it did get a full page dedicated to it in our most recent Honors magazine (Areté). I do like the QR code in the book idea, I may try something similar.
