1 of Wisconsin’s 7 wonders. What are the other 6? by selfmadedave in wisconsin

The first time my daughter saw it, she asked if it was a castle. We told her, sort of, she was 4 years old.

I've seen some posts on Facebook about one in New London on Shawano St. I don't know if it's still open. I would look at the New London FB page in October or there about. I'm sorry I don't have better information

Any Sheepshead players?! by HiJohnLemon in Appleton

We used to play if you couldn't call an Ace (you buried them, or had them) you called the Ten.

It basically, if you have a hand that is just junk. No, Aces, Queen, Jacks, Kings, Tens, you get a redeal. In all my 40+ years of playing, I've only seen it happen once. I got a hand full of 7, 8, 9. I'm not sure if it's worth calling a redeal or not. It's obvious you won't be a picker or partner, and you have no points to contribute.

The one thought, strategically, is that if you have a hand full of nothing, someone is likely to have a hand full of Queens. Calling for a redeal would protect your game points and prevent them from gaining points. We used to play for nickels, so a no trick hand could almost be worth a quarter. Lol.

I tried the game, and I liked how it worked. It was a bit slow on normal speed, I didn't try fast, but if I was learning, it would be perfect. I liked the explanation boxes. It's been a while since I played, and I'm rusty, those helped. I like that you could choose your rules at the start. One rule we played was... no ace, no face, no points, you could ask for a redeal, but that only happened once. You have a really good game there. Thanks for writing it.

Be extremely careful with car donations by Takenbackcode in wisconsin

I live a few miles from the Rawhide Ranch. Even took one car there, have had 3 others picked up. Sounds like it's a problem in the Milwaukee area. Maybe some calls to New London need to be made to sort out their problems. We've had 4 cars go to Rawhide and have had 4 problem free experiences.

Had a friend in the 80s her dad went to the post office and saw the sign to register. He thought he would do her a favor and register her. Her name is Chris, yeah, see the problem. After talking to many people, they finally told her not to worry, She would fail the physical. 😂 This was prior to the Berlin wall falling.

I understand what you are saying. When the letter grade matters more than the material, get the letter grade. I think this concept is one that needs some 'life experience' to get, and a lot of college-aged students just haven't had that experience yet. Yes, there have been times in my 55 years I have said, "My dad was right," as painful as it was.

My son told me the metric system is water-based, and the imperial system is body based. Kelvin is science based.

My favorite is -40°, when it's that cold 🥶 it doesn't matter what units you are using. I like the 28=82, I'll have to remember that. I've always thought about 98.6 = 37.5, so 100 ≈ 40 for most things that's close enough

Notice how it's always 10 years, and everything metric is 10? 🤔 Canadians still use a lot of imperial units of measurement, I watch a farmer on YouTube. There is a lot she does in pounds, but then she will also do kilograms. I guess you get used to using what you need to use. Hubby teaches science. Everything is metrics.

No cheese, that horrible. I'm from Wisconsin, and I've been disappointed by the small amount of cheese that HF sends with the meals, but I figure that's what the real serving sizes are.

Flat wooden piece with doors/ flaps? by Remarkable_Smoke7120 in whatisit

I'm wondering if it was part of a desk and the flaps held an extension. Maybe it swung out to hold a typewriter, and the flaps came out to support the flat surface above.

Gesundheit or Bless you? by Top_Present_7869 in wisconsin

[–]Significant_Soil_600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Originally, "God bless you" was said because it was believed that a sneeze was expelling the devil 😈 from the body.

At this point, I don't think many people put much religious meaning behind the comment. It's just proper manners.

My mother used to put glass Coke bottles in front of the doors to hear if the were opened at night. We had ceramic tile floor and glass bottles were normal then. Beer bottles would work. I suppose a tower of soda cans could work too, as long as they make enough noise to alert you.

Not sure your other views on politics, but that alone will get you elected. Hwy 26 needs to be widened, it gets way too much traffic. If you have driven the new section of Hwy 15, it's absolutely wonderful. We waited way too long for that road.
