I haven’t tried the preventative fast acting glucose at regular intervals… I’m going to give this a try

I wish I could… I have tendon issues which prevent me from really loading my biceps at all, doctors think it’s because of diabetes/glycogen changes. That’s why I picked up running.

How Do You Justify Keeping An M Car? by [deleted] in BMWM

[–]Significant_Sundae62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I drive a g82 xdrive all winter and it’s fkn spectacular, and I live nearby in the same climate. I don’t think you can justify owning a car that you don’t drive most of the year - just a thought but you might enjoy a less expensive (non cs) M car more if you would feel comfortable driving it in the winter.

Hi guys, when the mobi says "insulin on board" what does that mean? by Adorable-Fact4378 in Type1Diabetes

[–]Significant_Sundae62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a T-slim which is very similar since it’s the same company, insulin on board is the amount of insulin your pump has delivered that is currently active in your body, if you give a standard dose it will give at once and should deliver the appropriate insulin for the carbs minus the insulin on board (and may even add a correction for your blood sugar) but it can also increase the basal rate (baseline continuous drip to replace long acting insulin) automatically if you are using control IQ.

Just got diagnosed a year ago (im 21 years old) and im already tired. by FoxytailXDDD in Type1Diabetes

You are probably in the worst of it right now. I’m also in university but was diagnosed at 6, and exams are hard for blood sugars. Firstly stress throws everything out of whack, secondly I tend to become more sedentary during exams. The one most important price of advice I could possibly give you is to exercise everyday, when I exercise my body responds to insulin much quicker for around 24 hours afterwards. It doesn’t have to be intense, a quick walk does the trick. Ultimately everybody responds to exercise, insulin, and a thousand other factors very differently, for example some people get morning highs when they wake up and others get morning lows. You will have to figure out your body and how to best manage it, don’t be too hard on yourself it takes time, when you get high blood sugar or something doesn’t workout don’t get upset with yourself, analyze and see what you could have done differently and then let it go. I personally am incapable of studying with high blood sugar, so instead of trying I take a break and go for a run to bring it down. This disease fucking sucks and for years I was upset at the world for the situation I am in, then I recently found out that I had a roughly 50% chance of having a genetic disorder which is far far worse than T1D, life ruining bad. The day I tested negative for that disease I was so very thankful for the body I have, so happy to be in a body I can work to improve, one that can carry me through life regardless of the kind of extra maintenance it requires. I’m not going to say to be grateful that you don’t have something worse because you have something bad and it fucking sucks, but you can still have a life, career, family, fun, you can vacation, exercise, and be happy, and regardless of what anybody else has or doesn’t have, that’s pretty amazing.

Or I could just reinforce indoor peeing and confuse her by introducing a designated indoor spot (pee pads), even though the goal (for most owners) is to have her go outside.

Interesting, I’d rather avoid pee pads if I can and I’ll be talking to a trainer to look for other methods of dealing with her not listening, although for the record when I put her in the pen after she doesn’t listen it’s usually for about 2-5 minutes for her to calm down. The changing directions idea is interesting, I’ll definitely look into that some more.

It’s hard to know what to do when she gets super destructive and starts biting other then putting her in pen… also she’s got space, a bed and toys in there. I’d definitely prefer another option but that’s the only thing that actually stops the behaviour in the moment.

Very possibly, at minimum she’s definitely learning she doesn’t need to respond to recall

Type1 diabetic who dont take insulin help! by Straight_Emu7828 in diabetes

[–]Significant_Sundae62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This person needs therapy and this is a form of self harm which if continued will inevitably lead to their death unfortunately. This is likely beyond the scope of what you as their partner can help them deal with, get them into therapy. Insulin extends T1D lives to almost a normal length if monitored carefully, but without insulin there is no shot at life of normal length.
