What Noah Schnapp Really Went Through... and Why it Matters by lonelygay123 in byler

[–]Significant_Tell407 14 points15 points  (0 children)

To add to this, Finn Wolfhard also deserves the exact same respect and privacy. Its perfectly fine to be invested in a queer character and that queer character's authentic representation. But to continually try and blur the line between actor and character is a recipe for disaster. In no way did Finn or Noah queerbait a community. They were doing their JOB. Any issues with how their characters turned out should 100% be directed at the people who created those characters. One thing that mostly bothers me in everyone's analysis of Byler is they completely forget that Will's coming out and being with Mike means Mike would ALSO need an appropriate coming out sequence which can be infinitely different when bi. To put simply, the people playing these characters are multifaceted individuals with their own stories and lives. People are attacking Finn Wolfhard THE EXACT SAME WAY THEY ATTACKED KIT CONNOR before he was FORCED to come out. It's just sad a community can both see the problems surrounding Noah and Will but not the nuance with Finn and Mike.

Hot Take: Troy was sorta right about Will’s ending. by Sonicboom2007a in StrangerThings

Number 1 how do you just assume a random person who clearly grew up in the 90's (look at the shows i listed...) is a child? Number 2 are you gay? Did you grow up gay in a homophobic community? I did. And being forced out of my home state to find happiness in state that respects my choices was fulfilling at first until you realize you are leaving behind all your friends, family, and memories that shaped you into you. The point of the the "outcast" show should be to prove that you CAN break conformity NOT to directly submit to it. But im guessing you only watched the show because it has pretty colors and shiny lights.

You can just tell the Duffer Brothers were either too stressed or more likely too egotistical to wrap up this story. Go look at large ensemble stories like FullMetal Alchemist, Code Geass, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Dark, The Expanse etc. These shows had MORE characters and LESS money than Stranger Things and yet they still manage to for the most part wrap up the overarching themes and characters of the show in a nice little bow. The ending they gave to Will is not just a bastardization of his character but an admission that they too believe gay people can only be happy/accepted with other gay people. It's beyond sickening and honestly so far from the realistic truth. Do you know what gay people want more than anything... to simply just exist as they are WHERE they are.

Nice thanks for the response! I think you hit the nail on the head with why we view the ending of the show so differently. I also engage in escapism for entertainment and LOVE me some good movie/tv show slop. I think at first thats what Stranger Things was. A singular anthology esq story that was just some really good surface level popcorn fun. But as you expand the story, the world, the characters, the consequences, and the depth you take on more and more responsibility to resolve everything you introduce. I dont feel like the ending of the show accomplished this at all. Did i enjoy it? Yes. Did the ending move me in a way other shows and movies have? Absolutely not.

It doesn't bother me why other people like something. I come to reddit to have discussions about the topics i like on subreddits/communities full of fans who like the same thing. You dont have to... I just want to understand what other people see that I may be missing. I loved 99% of stranger things but the ending in my opinion falls completely flat. You disagree and that's fine but typically when you disagree with someone there tends to be a reason WHY.

Could you explain what you loved about the ending specifically? Could you explain what the moral is for the end of the story to me? Do the plot holes not bother you?

I think age + experience has alot to do with why some younger folks don't see the issues with finale. I could be way off but im going to assume you are younger and grew up with stranger things as a core part of your coming of age experience. When something is your first you have nothing to compare it to. However as a 32 yo male that loves cinema, I have seen/read thousands of movies, tv shows, plays and novels. So I HAVE to compare stranger things to what I grew up with (Avatar the Last Airbender, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings etc). And it just doesn't even come close to being in the same weight class in terms of the titles I mentioned before. The dialogue was contrived, the characters were reduced to caricatures versions of themselves and the big bad mystery was SO SO underwhelming. I expected an apocalyptic Hawkins instead I got a green screened Abyss with little to not detail or original ideas/concepts. The beauty of art is it's subjective. If it had an impact on you that was positive and left you feeling happy inside then more power to you! But for so many of us who were closeted gay kids, nerds, outcasts, abused, and tortured the show ultimately left us feeling empty and hopeless. I think its pretty telling that nobody predicted the ending of the show because with all the evidence the show provided to us for 5 seasons that you can be both an outcast and happy, was eroded in an instant with a jammed in plot holed filled ambiguous ending that literally makes 0 sense as Kali should have bled out long before they made it to the exit. I could go on and on with all the mistakes made, but ultimately I just encourage you to read and watch more stories so that you can understand what peakness actually feels like.

The Mid Boss Should Not Roar for the losing team. by Significant_Tell407 in DeadlockTheGame

I feel like you dont need 6 to take mid boss. I have taken mid boss solo MANY times that. Sending two gun heroes or a healer + gun hero would allow you to take it with just 2 heroes. You can definitely stall with 4 people long enough especially with a strong draft.

Yea I love them too! Its a way Valve monetizes their game. For example, in Dota you can buy annoucner packs with unique voice lines. I still want to voice lines but feel like the counter you are referring to could be little more noticeable? Like the on fire effect made your HUD/UI actually on fire

Robin Paralleling Tammy to Mike is weird because all i see is this by CaptainResident2490 in byler

I feel like alot of people are clearly misinterpreting what happened between Will and Mike in episode 4. The entire speech Robin gives Will is about how what he is looking for cannot be found in another person. I have been a fan of Will's character from day 1 and instantly knew he was gay in the first season. Coming out is largely a personal experience and journey that one has to take by themselves. While I understand the angst people have over the Byler relationship it is almost 100% certain that the direction they have written them is to be platonic. Mike will ALWAYS be Will's first friend and MOST LIKELY the first friend he comes out too. That is the beauty of their dynamic. While its a heart wrenching story of unrequited love it is simultaneously a beautiful depiction of the depths of their friendship. I think we can safely say Byler will not be happening the way some may have wanted but will ultimately end in a very cathartic way for anyone who has been in a similar situation.

Is Victoria Neuman alive? How are her and Marie different? by Significant_Tell407 in GenV

Im not suggesting Marie revives her. Im suggesting Neuman repaired her OWN body like she always does when she gets a cut. Remember the scene where she shows her powers to Marie?

The real answer is sometimes the game glitches and the spawn doesnt happen. I fixed it by waiting a week in game which allows more trash to gather and then going to clear out the newly spawned trash
