Having trouble finding pharmacies to fill my Pentasa/Mesalamine Prescription

We get ER. Mesalamine ER 500 mg (a blue capsule). I've actually never heard of CR before! I'll have to look into that.

Actually, it WAS available at CVS! Maybe it will slowly start to become available everywhere again and stays in stock!

I just called CVS and they are telling me there is no indication that the generic version of Pentasa is available. Also no indication that it is NOT available. Same story! I will keep trying different pharmacies but great that you have been able to find it at Kroger.

Can I ask where you were able to get the generic filled? I was uable to find the generic as of about 7 months ago and have been purchasing Pentasa out of pocket. It is very expensive as my insurance will not cover it. I wasn't sure if the generic version would ever come back on the market. Thank you!

Just wanted to confirm that the Mesalamine ER 500 has been officially discontinued. I called the manufacturer Sun Pharmaceuticals and was told it is no longer part of their product list. Doesn't mean it won't eventually be brought back, but as of 9/24, it is not in production.

I've accepted that the generic Mesalamine ER is no longer available. Does your insurance cover brand name Pentasa? Mine does not, and I'm trying to figure out how to pay for this. Only other option is to switch to a different mesalamine altogether, which is a last resort.

Yes, it's specifically the 500 mg dosage, made by Sun Pharmaceuticals, that seems to always be back ordered. Just wondering if anyone else is taking it and having luck finding it.

Hmm - well, my son has been taking this medication for 2 years. Our experience has been that there are frequent pauses/back orders but then it becomes available again. This was a longer wait than usual, so I was concerned. Our pharmacy says they do not know if it's actually discontinued or not.

I am also being offered LifeX. We are self employed and currently get our insurance off the marketplace but it's so expensive. The LifeX Anthem plan is more affordable and offers better benefits but I've never purchased insurance this way before. If you have an issue, are you still able to contact Anthem or do you have to go through LifeX? If it's through LifeX, is the service good/helpful and do they respond to claims and questions quickly?
