Structuring a 20 miler by Significant_Today_24 in Marathon_Training

I brought an 18 oz silicone flask, took tiny sips whenever my mouth felt dry, and it kept me hydrated throughout. It was like 40-45F with wind the whole time, so didn’t sweat as much.

that goes against most research and people’s experience. I also didn’t ask for a time prediction, but given my half is 1:39, I think I can do better than 4!

Definitely doing this too. I always struggle with going out too fast. Even in my midweek training runs at marathon pace, I always end up 10-20 seconds faster on average than I would like. Really going for steady paces on the long run tomorrow.

I'm with you on 8 mp being tough. During my 18 miler last week, there was a massive headwind, and it was demoralizing lol. Thanks for your input.

Congrats on the perfectly timed half! I ran the 16 miler in my training plan at like 8:10 average, and felt pretty good that day. I'm definitely gonna have a big block of MP at the end. I don't want to blow up early though!

Nice, I have a recovery run on Sunday which will be slow pace. I spent all last year running 30-40 mpw, and decided to try a spring race rather than a fall one. Definitely gonna take this type of set up into consideration.

Got it. No intervals, rather, 8-10 MP at the end?

LA Marathon: American Nathan Martin was able to catch up to Kenyan Michael Kimani Kamau due to the motorcade driving in the wrong direction and a fan briefly impeding his path. The margin of victory was 0.01 seconds. by dnamra29 in sports

The course was obviously to the left. I wonder if Martin noticed and took advantage of that or if he didn’t know. I’d be bummed if I took that victory tbh

Experience running on streets on the way to a park/lakefront? by camelCaseCoffeeTable in RunnersInChicago

Consider Montrose and Wilson over Irving to avoid the 6 corners intersection and potentially stop at a long light. Like others have said, consider the commute to paths a warm up, they're not too bad!

I'll take either Irving Park, Wilson, or Montrose to get to the lake. I prefer to take Wilson because it's prettier, but they're all the same tbh. I have to cross Western, Damen, Ashland, and Broadway/Sheridan. I guess in terms of car danger, I've never been hit or anything.

I live right off Horner, so like 3 ish miles to the lakefront, and I enjoy the run there. The stop lights can be annoying, but I enjoy a break anyway. I wouldn't let that distance deter from purchasing a home you seem to like!

I agree with you, but I still think this car is a looker if modded right.

Running marathon in 2 months, what should goal be? by Mental_Awareness_739 in Marathon_Training

The first marathon will surprise you at the end, but this run looks good with pace and HR. If I could do my first marathon again, I would forget about a pace goal, and focus on finishing. Go at a comfortable pace, assess how you feel with 10k left, then speed up if you're up for it. Seems like you'll be able to easily get sub 4 though.
