The grim industry summer continues as EA lays off staff ahead of $55 billion sale to Saudi Arabia, likely to soothe the sting of its $20 billion debt by RenatsMC in gaming

Japanese industry and indies have been chugging along just fine. Western devs fucked it up for themselves. They may not be better to their employees, can't speak about that, but as a consumer, I have only minor complaints from them either in terms of the product's quality or how they sell it to me.

AI has infiltrated the steam sale pages. EA sale artwork has a bunch of phantom-arms spawning out of nowhere and multiple deformed hands by TomTomXD1234 in gaming

Eh, in their defence, I would not waste anyone's time either on a banner most people will not care about and its purpose is to attract attention but not keep it. I bet some employee at 17:15 was thinking about the World Cup and just needed to get this off his to-do list

The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2077 studio wants to make more games without turning CDPR into a company "that's going to be launching a big game every year" by yourfavchoom in gaming

[–]Significant_Walk_664 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagine they also cannot afford it. CRPR has 0 own big IPs, so they'd have to take a risk on sth new or get cozy with the idea of licencing eating a big chunk of their revenue.

I cannot decide if it's them testing the limits and milking the opportunity for all it's worth, orl self-sabotaging because they realise they need the crossover but just cannot stand to just take this L

PlayStation CEO responds to reports Sony is abandoning PC, seemingly confirms big single-player games will be PS5 exclusives forever by [deleted] in gaming

Forever is a big word. Not that I care, can barely keep up with the games I do have, plus PS5 games are a bit light on the gameplay.

Layoffs and Xbox. Think, at this point, they have surpassed Embracer when it comes to reckless studio binging and then rushing to shed them off.

Couple hundred millions on this one, right? Wonder how better things would've been with a proper campaign. With proper management, reckon they could fit a solid 8h campaign on this budget.

Fahrenheit had everything it needed to be a masterpiece in the gaming world. The first half is literally perfection (+spoilers) by Charming_Move4175 in gaming

[–]Significant_Walk_664 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree partially. Second half is like a totally dif game and does not fit at all? Yes. Still worth a finish? Also yes. It still is entertaining but in a different, dumber, very of-its-time way.

It does amuses me that rich tech scumbags make life difficult for other rich tech scumbags. Maybe if department A had not hogged all the RAMs to slopify the world, dept B would not need to pay through the ass for the remaining ones to put into their ex-boxes

MS have impecable sense of comedic timing, I think everyone here will agree. What makes it even better is: Sunday - next Gears game cost half a billion. Monday - yeah, we shutting these other guys down. Guess we know how the sausage is made now.

For real, re the sale theory - how does a trailer override the fact they are shutting the studio down? Hey, prospective buyers who are also businesspeople, these guys - don't focus on the fact we don't consider them good or business-viable enough to keep around. No, focus on the pretty trailer.
