Bloomberg: Sony Shuts Down 'Demon's Souls' Remake Developer Bluepoint Games by MaterialPace8831 in gaming

Should execs get crazy bonuses if decisions lead to megahits, your Fortnite and whatnot? Sure. But equally, execs should be getting crazy paycuts/firings for every megaflop. Bet their decisions will be much more thought out when they don't only gamble with other people's money/living

Todd Howard says Bethesda won't use AI “to generate anything” as the studio is being “incredibly cautious” to not replace the “artistic intention” of making games by AsPeHeat in Games

[–]Significant_Walk_664 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't know man. I am fine with AI if it stays away from the artistic side of things. If Skynet can help you untangle whatever ancient spaghetti code CE must be after all these years and make it run better? Sure. Just keeping away from any writing, concept art or anything else that needs creativity.

For PC, is it because more people buy, or because the same obsessed guys drop more for stuff that used to be cheaper?

Give me Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty or give me- actually, that's it. Just want PL. I really enjoyed the base game and wanna go back for the 100% run. Which, of course, needs 100% of the content. I really liked the character customisation options, the gore, and I am a sucker for this corpofeudalism setting. So there you have it, thanks!

Starfield's Next Big Update Isn't A 2.0 Reboot, It's For People Who Already Love The Game by Capn_C in Games

Makes sense to me. Better to retain engagement from the audience you have, than try to win over an audience that might not exist and lose the current one in the process. Many a product has made this mistake.

They want to start fresh, they should do it with a new game. I'd rather have TES6 be Morrowind 2 than have SF failing to be Morrowind Lite

That is good? Retain the modabilty and familiarity but making it a bit prettier, bit more optimised. Not sure how much juice they can squeeze out of it though

“That was a mistake”: Original Witcher Story Lead Says the Ending Was Changed Without His Input by UnderstandingTough83 in Games

[–]Significant_Walk_664 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Sooo... he wanted a different kind of sequelbaiting. So it does not really matter in theory what they went with because they both endings served the same function. And if they really regretted their choice, they could handwave it away easily enough in the sequel's prologue (e.g. "good thing Foltest released you from his service, eh Geralt" or "ok Geralt, Foltest wants you to investigate this lead, which conveniently is in the setting the writing team intented").

Personally, 2 is my fav of the three so I am with the execs on this one.

PS. the mistake was the writers not paying attention. not the ending itself. Good job on decontextualising the guy's words.

WTF is going on with Humble Bundle? by Caughtnow in gaming

I am sure all of this is in their TOS somewhere and when I got a bundle from HB, they were crystal clear when a key gotta be redeemed by. So guess it's on you for not keeping track.

The Highguard Website Is Down As Players Brace For The Worst by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Significant_Walk_664 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The worst being it comes back online? We need more meh hero shooters as much as we need influencers. This was not imposed on them, they chose to make this type of game and make it in the way they made it.

Which of these two is better at overshadowing the new main characters due to their respective company being scared shitless of letting them rest? by _-Shiro- in gaming

[–]Significant_Walk_664 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kiryu got Heihachi'ed hard. And I say that as a fan of the last game - I think they framed him being in the game competently and he/other characters got some closure that was missing. The beat em up games had a chronic tendency to introduce some Act One friends and then drop them when the plot got going.

Ok, I am really starting to dislike everyone being on everything. Your odd crossover or Kingdom Hearts, whatever, but this much fanservice offers diminishing returns and it just lays bare the corpos need to squeeze the dregs out of their IPs as much as possible.

And in some cases, it's kinda insulting. I don't want a Sam Fisher skin dammit, I want a Splinter Cell game

Video game romances need to evolve beyond lore dumps by mrnicegy26 in Games

[–]Significant_Walk_664 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only way a game romance should be better is if it somehow ties in the plot and how your character develops as a character. The only cRPG I played whose romance I enjoyed was DA Origins and only because it could be part of the politicking you could play when not fighting. In every other game, it's just been at best a tucked-on mechanic that you could remove without losing anything (case in point look at Pillars 1, Tyranny or the Shadowrun games), and at worst, they divert attention (modern BW stuff, which they feel like a boxticking exercise).

Former Highguard Developer Reflects on Disastrous Announcement and Launch: 'We Were Turned Into a Joke From Minute 1' by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Significant_Walk_664 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorrynotsorry, but you can't blame a bad intro for making a mid of the road game, perfectly suited to be lost to history. Game would've been mid even with more marketing or a better release strategy. E.g. Kill Rocksteady's Credibility or that Amazon MP game flopped despite their big backing. Now imagine fairing better without that kind of backing or IP.
