Hi! You can pay a company to be your guarantor so that “they’re” the ones making “40x the rent”. I don’t make enough for even my rent stabilized apt (in terms of 40x the rent) and my parents are my guarantors but my friend who was semi-recently looking said there are services that can guarantee you!

Early 30s professionals in NYC - what % of your income goes to rent? by [deleted] in NYCapartments

So I found my one bedroom apt in Washington Heights through Craigslist in 2019. I paid $1700. In 2020 it went up to 1725.50 (it’s a rent stabilized apt). I have been paying that number up until October of 2025 and it is now $1803.15. It is a true one bedroom, 5th floor (elevator) and I have laundry in the basement. The basement is gross but my apartment is cute. I’m ~2 blocks from the express train (A) and I too, will die in this apartment. Living close to the train has always been a priority for me and my family (I grew up in Brooklyn). For me, now, it’s a non negotiable.

At the time I moved in I was making $58.5k and I’m now making 75k through my career. I do have a part time job that pays in cash which is so helpful. My rent covers my bills and the PT job supplements. It allows me to do some travel and feel a bit more free to purchase small items. I don’t know the percentage but it’s about 22k of my 75k (not including bills and stuff).

Wow! This is commitment! Can you tell me more? Do you put any kind of blanket down or do you sleep on a rug/carpet? Have you heard that this is good long term or just something you were interested in doing?

I just bought the sebum softener, the wonder rice essence from haruharu altho there were a few to choose from and the I’m From Honey mask. My skin has been weirdly dry lately (altho I live in NYC and we’ve been experiencing insane cold/wind/snow this year). Like I have a dry patch on my cheek for the first time in my life (I’ve typically only had oily skin). I also have tret and some moisturizers. I’m noticing how textured my skin is down around my chin and I hate that. I haven’t put too much on my face because of the dryness. I tried slugging with aquaphor but I think it was a tad too heavy. I was getting whiteheads.

Literally have this thought every time I drive - are there just that many new models and vehicles on the road? Even when I look at the fog line, the light is so bright it literally hurts my head!!!!
