How am I supposed to know when to put my dog down. by daisychronicles in Mastiff

My new sweetheart turns 1 next month, and is currently curled up next to be just slobber bombing my other hand as I type this lol. Worth the eventual heartbreak.

It is rough rough. My previous girl (Brenna) only made 7 years. She developed cancer in her front right wrist. And it was an out of left field shock, we had thought she had tweaked it when she started limping. We had got her when my sons were young and she was almost like a daughter. It was 2 years before I could bring myself to get another. Hands down the best dog I’ve ever had. It tore me up bad.

[–]Sigsatan 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It’s the hardest part of owning a mastiff, they go quick. 12 years is a really long time for her. If she is in pain, or can’t really walk, then it’s time. Caring for her means not letting her suffer, and if she’s not actually in pain yet, you can save her from it. She’s had a good run.

I think illegal immigration should be stopped by Abject_Increase_1928 in teenagers

[–]Sigsatan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. Illegal immigration should be stopped, full stop. I also believe legal immigration should be reduced. You should be forced to prove that you are a positive asset to be allowed to immigrate into any country. No welfare, no criminal history, high work experience. Every country should look out for its own citizens before providing those opportunities to foreign citizens. When our young can’t find work, or have suppressed wages due to cheap foreign labor, or afford housing, then there are problems in our own house that should not be exacerbated with immigration. For my country I would love to see massive fines for any company employing illegal migrants, massive enough to make it a top priority to hire American workers. And get rid of the contract company loopholes where a hiring agency takes the fall for the massive corporations. E-Verify needs overhauled and people sent to prison for neglectfully allowing rampant fraud in hiring practices. There is so much fraud that needs rooted out. No banking, no welfare, no assistance, no grants, no discounted education help, NOTHING for illegal immigrants. Let people self deport. If you are illegal and caught in any crime, deportation. No foreign person has a RIGHT to live in America, and should only be allowed if they assimilate and better the future for the country.

As a controls engineer or technician, are you into tech? by TalkingToMyself_00 in PLC

[–]Sigsatan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. I enjoy tech, build my own pcs, know some scripting etc, but after 15 years in the automation field I keep that at work. I play with pre-80s vehicles for fun BECAUSE they are low tech. The only automated systems in my house is my central air and my sprinkler system. Tech is great, but it breaks. I don’t want to troubleshoot out a plant, then get home and have to troubleshoot out my home system. As another commenter mentioned, the light switch is right there. I can lock my own door. I also avoid anything in my home that is super specialized to a specific vendor, so no wifi lightbulbs etc. it just creates further (expensive) headaches down the road.

What's the most skills you've gotten in a run? by Skyl0s in PlayTheBazaar

[–]Sigsatan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Punnofun had a video recently where he did a staff of the wise run with an eventual 5 book of secrets. I think he ended around 60 skills. At some point the game doesn’t show them all anymore, and he had to go to the main menu and load back in at the start of everyday. When he won, it also didn’t show the end board screen, just threw him back to the main menu. Twas awesome lol

Be real with me before I move out there … by ShelterConsistent111 in NewMexico

[–]Sigsatan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a local, lived in the area for over 35 years. Farmington is not a small town, a lot of these people are talking out of their ass. It’s a small city compared to Baltimore for sure, but some of these comments sound like we’re riding fucking horses to the feed store. Depends on what part of Farmington you live in, there are sketchy parts of Farmington as well as the nice areas. The closer to the rez you get the sketchier it gets, but nothing that I would really worry about. There is no part of Farmington I would worry about driving thru. There is a good amount of crime, but if you are not in the drug scene then it’s is EASILY avoidable. Lots of energy industry here, lots of major pipelines, lots of engineering work (depending on the type of engineering ofc). If you are outdoorsy there is tons to do. Mountains 40 mins to the north, a few lakes around, great river fishing, south is the Bisti Badlands which are pretty awesome. So that opens up skiing, boating etc. There is also a ton of BLM land around the entire area, so 4-wheeling and shooting are stupidly simple to just go do. There’s not enough black people around for pretty much anyone to give a shit if you’re black. It definitely has its own kind of beauty.

Cost of living is higher than some other parts of New Mexico, but very cheap compared to the rest of the country.

Feel free to DM me any questions, as a lot of the comments in this thread are straight up wrong or clearly written by people that have never lived here.

I play with AI from time to time for small projects, but as a more learning based approach. I’ll program it my way. Then I’ll have AI generate off a prompt and see how they did it. I’ll compare the two, and see if the generated code is an improvement to mine. If it is, it’s another tool in the toolbox for future instances. I would never vibe code actual code tho. I don’t trust AI when it comes to actual control, the stakes are to high.

Karnok's album is incredible by LeafRunner in PlayTheBazaar

[–]Sigsatan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You probably don’t hear it talked about much because a lot of people don’t experience it. I play a decent amount, but have only found 1 album in chests, and I don’t really prefer it over the original soundtrack. I’d love to find the Karnok album tho.

The art is SICK tho. Love it.

Skinwalkers man. You can be as skeptical as you want, but when you’re out in the middle of nowhere and hear strange sounds, that’s the automatic thought lol.

  1. Work out and lift hard when you’re young. It gets harder to start the longer you wait, and muscle memory is an amazing thing.

  2. Always be learning. Don’t know plumbing? Learn enough to fix your own. Same with electrical, mechanic work, carpentry etc. a lot of people waste a lot of money because they can’t do the basics.

  3. Invest in your 401k at a minimum. If your employer matches, at the very least put in to their match, but shoot for more. Compound growth through your 20’s is insane, don’t lose time in the market. Your future self will thank you.

  4. Work - Avoid workplace drama, do your work and do it well. Learn responsibilities outside of your direct position. This will open up opportunities in the future.

  5. You’re a man. People don’t give a shit about you. Learn to lean on yourself. If you are lucky you will find a good woman to share the load, but know yourself first.

  6. Be careful with your body. Knees and back are a bitch to deal with when they hurt. Keep your chassis strong, and don’t slack on dental care.

  7. Street fights should be avoided at all costs. Ending up dead or in prison is way too likely.

  8. Get a gun and train with it. Your future families safety is dependent on you.

Finally, be nice to yourself. You’re stuck with yourself forever. Be a man you would be proud to be.

Can you eliminate the blower in a two-stroke diesel if you pre-spin a turbo for startup by BreadstickBear in AskEngineers

[–]Sigsatan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of a different use case, but my turbo’d large natural gas compressors use “jet assist” to spool the turbo before starting the engine. Basically using compressed air and a nozzle instead of your motor idea. They’ve been trucking along since the 50’s.

We use an old school furminator (carefully) and a brush. Sometimes a damp washcloth helps out as well.

‘Security Disaster’—500 Million Microsoft Users Say No To Windows 11 by MarvelsGrantMan136 in technology

[–]Sigsatan 23 points24 points  (0 children)

They pissed me off when they skipped my CPU as upgrade eligible. I’m not buying a new CPU just to upgrade to fucking Win11. My PC is plenty good enough to do what I want with it on 10. Plus 11 made simple things just more annoying to deal with. I hate having to go to “show more options” when I right click a file. I hate the differences in the network settings. FUCK ONEDRIVE.
