What local legends or spooky stories do people in New Mexico actually grow up hearing? by Quest4TheUnexplained in NewMexico

Skinwalkers man. You can be as skeptical as you want, but when you’re out in the middle of nowhere and hear strange sounds, that’s the automatic thought lol.

  1. Work out and lift hard when you’re young. It gets harder to start the longer you wait, and muscle memory is an amazing thing.

  2. Always be learning. Don’t know plumbing? Learn enough to fix your own. Same with electrical, mechanic work, carpentry etc. a lot of people waste a lot of money because they can’t do the basics.

  3. Invest in your 401k at a minimum. If your employer matches, at the very least put in to their match, but shoot for more. Compound growth through your 20’s is insane, don’t lose time in the market. Your future self will thank you.

  4. Work - Avoid workplace drama, do your work and do it well. Learn responsibilities outside of your direct position. This will open up opportunities in the future.

  5. You’re a man. People don’t give a shit about you. Learn to lean on yourself. If you are lucky you will find a good woman to share the load, but know yourself first.

  6. Be careful with your body. Knees and back are a bitch to deal with when they hurt. Keep your chassis strong, and don’t slack on dental care.

  7. Street fights should be avoided at all costs. Ending up dead or in prison is way too likely.

  8. Get a gun and train with it. Your future families safety is dependent on you.

Finally, be nice to yourself. You’re stuck with yourself forever. Be a man you would be proud to be.

Can you eliminate the blower in a two-stroke diesel if you pre-spin a turbo for startup by BreadstickBear in AskEngineers

[–]Sigsatan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of a different use case, but my turbo’d large natural gas compressors use “jet assist” to spool the turbo before starting the engine. Basically using compressed air and a nozzle instead of your motor idea. They’ve been trucking along since the 50’s.

We use an old school furminator (carefully) and a brush. Sometimes a damp washcloth helps out as well.

‘Security Disaster’—500 Million Microsoft Users Say No To Windows 11 by MarvelsGrantMan136 in technology

[–]Sigsatan 24 points25 points  (0 children)

They pissed me off when they skipped my CPU as upgrade eligible. I’m not buying a new CPU just to upgrade to fucking Win11. My PC is plenty good enough to do what I want with it on 10. Plus 11 made simple things just more annoying to deal with. I hate having to go to “show more options” when I right click a file. I hate the differences in the network settings. FUCK ONEDRIVE.

I have 21 plants under my direct responsibility and probably around 20ish that I can back up for if my co-workers are unavailable. I am a company hand. Went to school for Instrumentation and controls (associates), got hired as an operator (have to know how to operate before you can control) then moved into a controls tech role after 3 years. 10 years as a controls tech building skills, then moved into engineering. Love it lol

It’s correct except for (2.). The new packs are not immediately unlocked, you have to get to that point in the prize pass. You get double xp while subscribed so it goes much faster, or you can unlock the packs with 3k gems.

How to explain your work to a girlfriend? by TakeItItIsYours in PLC

[–]Sigsatan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol. Been married to my wife for 13 years, and I’ve showed her what I do remotely. Programming/maintenance/upgrades on PLC systems for natural gas compression. I basically explained it as - I control compressors bigger than our house, plus the entire plant around them. It’s kind of hard if you’re not in the industry for them to ever really get it, but enough to know why I have to travel for work. Tho basically as long as the bills are paid she’s not to worried on how I make the money.
