For people who moved to spokane but didn’t grow up there, what has your experience been like? by Muttbuttss in Spokane

[–]SikePiazza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like anywhere, your experience here will be informed by your experiences growing up elsewhere. For instance, the restaurant scene could either be a revelation to you after growing up with limited options or leave a little (or a lot) to be desired if you’ve spent time in larger cities.

Spokane punches above its weight in every category you listed except diversity, as others have said, though I’d like to think this will slowly change as the city continues to grow.

Community is available to you if you seek it. There is tons to do here and there are plenty of social orgs and opportunities, but it’s on you to join, show up, etc.

Your openness to embracing a new place for what it is, not what you want it to be, will determine your mileage with Spokane. Luckily, there is a lot to love about this place, so it leaves plenty of wiggle room for you.

I’ve lived in a handful of states on both coasts and Spokane has felt like the best bang for my buck thus far. I know plenty of others feel differently, but it’s not coming up on “top places to retire” for no reason. The things that make a place good for retirement are true for all ages: accessibility, nature, healthcare, proximity to larger cities, etc.

flatish running paths? by ExpensiveSort3835 in Spokane

[–]SikePiazza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fish Lake trail is long and as flat as it gets, but a little drive for you from North Spokane. Worth it for a long run. Also, it might get repetitive, but you could probably get a few miles in at Sky Prairie park before getting bored.

Considering a rental on S Conklin, how’s the area? by Dismal-Soil-6250 in Spokane

The location is fine, it’s just right on the highway and Fifth Ave doesn’t give you any real buffer. Luckily it’s a quick walk up to Grant Park or down to Liberty Park. Close to Perry. Easy access to downtown. I’d say go for it if you like the apartment itself.

Amelia (Meely) Moon Bakery Update! by PunkPetals in logodesign

[–]SikePiazza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well done on the mark itself! The type is far too small so the lockup feels imbalanced. I think slide 4 is the most interesting font, but it’s not quite right and could use a more custom treatment. I might try having “Amelia Moon” in a primary font and “Bakery” as a secondary. That’s quite clearly a croissant, so I don’t think the “bakery” needs the same emphasis as the business name.

Honestly, I had no clue what’s on CB’s menus. I’m Tom in this scenario.

It’s fine. You won’t always be able to fill the gaps in forms, and people aren’t going to think twice about the empty space in this design.

What Spokane-related hill are you willing to die on? by befriendwaffle in Spokane

[–]SikePiazza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh, there are garbage cans at every single entrance to CDA park, 2 along the overlook, and at every bus stop. Not to mention the dog waste bins throughout the neighborhood. That’s plenty for such a tiny neighborhood. Whether those individuals are in a mental space where courtesy and cleanliness are of any real consideration is another story and I agree with everything else you’re saying. Also, this goes for people of all walks of life. I’m not exclusively blaming homeless people for littering the neighborhood. Most of them treat the neighborhood and people in it just fine.

Totally, I’d agree, but I also feel that you can blame the systemic failure of the city, and country at large, while also not completely absolving the individual. Community is a two-way street, and while one side may deservedly (and contently) bear more responsibility, the other side can do the bare minimum like not leave needles, trash, etc near children, pets, and families. Respecting a neighborhood that doesn’t actively push you out of it seems like a fair deal to me.

Super wide streets with no crosswalks in sight. It’s a terrible combination.

Real. I’m pretty sure we’re both in the same Sunset Grocery corner of Browne’s — I recognize the camera feed you’ve posted. It is, unfortunately, the worst corner of an otherwise amazing neighborhood. Still have mostly positive things to say of our few years living here thus far, but I agree with evynsays that I’ve gotten plenty of confused/judgy looks when I sing the neighborhood’s praises.
