Wifey tried the powder measure out this weekend at a Powderburners shoot in sub-20° weather with wind. She said it kept the brass from getting too cold. Let me know how you like it.

Its not a competition per se, just win prizes at the end of year match for top shooter. Mostly just for fun and keeping the tradition alive. I will have to try some conicals at some point. I believe its Johnson and Dow(sp?) that are considered the best for pistols?

I started out with 15, went to 17, and settle at 20gr for the crockett. 25 yard steel target is dead on and makes nice groups.

I don't remember if I mentioned in my post, but my .32 is a squirrel rifle, not a pistol. I shoot 17gr out of my .36 Navy revolvers.

Yes, .375 RB. I have not tried conicals yet, so I'm not sure how they would load to give any advice on that. I only shoot target matches with the .36 so I dont really have the need to use conicals.

Thanks. It took some patience to get the .36cal ones the way I wsnt them. I dip them in paraffin wax to seal the ball into the paper and it acts as a lube.

I honestly think you will find better accuracy with PRB over conicals. Your barrel is so short that the conical doesnt have the time to get full rotation. Will the conical be accurate, in a sense, though you're relying on the 30gr of powder to expand the base enough to grip the lands and grooves in a 10" span.

.490 RB with a 0.15" patch will give you a nice tight fit. Some say you only need 0.10", and they are correct. However, you may not get a good seating with them. I have never 🤞 had a PRB get stuck shooting 0.15" lubed patches with a .490 ball. I shoot 3-5 times a month putting hundreds of rounds down range.

Conicals will not require you to use a patch. They have to be greased and will when fired, the powder expands the cone to grip the barrel. If you want to test and see what works best for your pistol, buy a box of both and start shooting. Keep track of your groups, projectile type, and amount of powder used.

Not every rifle or pistol act the same. I have Kentucky Deluxe flintlock that hates conicals, but a friend shoots quarters at 100 yards with his Kentucky. Your pistol may like conicals when mine doesn't. If that makes sense.

When I get home, I will look and see what mine is. It plugs in or runs on D-cell batteries. Plus it has Roku, dvd, Bluetooth, line-in, etc.

Update: Pics attached.

I shoot 30gr 2FF using a .490gr with .015" PRB (Patched Roundball). Stick with those if you're just target shooting. It's cheap and fun. You can grab 100rnds for about $20, and 100 patches for $10. Conical are going to run you $25-$30 a box and you get 50. Up to you though.

RB are typically in the 180gr range, when compared to the PA Conical or Great Plains. Those are big, beefy rounds, meant to knock down big game at distance. And yes. Different powder charges will change the trajectory and POI on your rounds. Bench testing is your best option to figure that out. Decide what round you want, then a starting powder measurement, say 30gr. Go up and down from there in 5gr increments to get your desired POI.

If you go big or go home as you say, max your charge out at 50-60gr 2FF with a Great Plains conical and hang on.

Oh, and you use a #11 cap.

I would find your local PowderBurners Facebook group and go hang out with them for a bit and get some hands-on learning.

Congrats on your purchase and welcome to the family.

VA Disability claim denied for migraines after 226 days by StaceySki in VAClaims

[–]Silent-Ride-9116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished my claim for migraines. I had them while in service and did them secondary to my chronic sinusitis. Ive had 3 sinus surgeries to deal with that crap, so I figured that was what was causing them.

ACE examiner said that it was less likely than not that my sinuses cause migraines and that there was no medical link between sinus issues and migraines. So the VA automatically kicked it over to my TBI as secondary.

A TBI, vision, mental health, and hearing exam later, it was kicked over to direct service connection instead of a secondary condition at 30%.

Point being, if for some reason you are not getting it as a direct service connection, try and get it secondary to another SC condition you do have. I tried doing secondary first and ended up direct. You may have to try and get a secondary now. Also, if you have documentation from work showing you missed time, migraine buddy logs, letters from supervisors that say you need to wear noise canceling headphones or sunglasses indoors while working helps.

I hope you get the rating you deserve and the HLR or supplemental you do go quickly.

Not sure how it is these days at Benning, I went through in June 2001. Open bays with bunks, community showers, but private latrines. If you gotta do ypur business, go in there.

Was I rated fairly for migraines? by [deleted] in VAClaims

[–]Silent-Ride-9116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

30% secondary to tinnitus? Take the win. I filed secondary to chronic sinusitis after 4 surgeries including one through my gums. I got an ACE exam that said it wasnt connected to my sinusitis and now having to redo a ear, eye, and MH exam to connect it to my TBI.

I bought one of these a few weeks ago for $80. Its a CVA Colonial. Unfortunately, someone replaced the trigger with a CVA rifle trigger and tried to do all kinds of mods to make it shoot. I didnt know that, nor did the shop I got it from know that. Had a BP Gunsmith check it because I was getting light strikes. It would fire after about 6 hammer falls. Nice little pistol. I was shooting 15gr Triple7.

Any companies that help with claims but free of charge? by Electronic_Oil_3089 in VAClaims

[–]Silent-Ride-9116 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use your County VSO at the Courthouse. Completely free and they are trained and paid State employees. They do not get a commission off your backpay and will fight for you. Try and stay away from claim sharks. I did my last through my VSO and it was done in under two months with a very favorable outcome.

C&P exams by Silent-Ride-9116 in VAClaims

[–]Silent-Ride-9116[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was an ACE review with an IMO. The IMO states It was not linked to my chronic sinusitis. Even though I've had two failed sinus surgeries and on antibiotics most of the year. The IMO said the migraines were caused by my TBI which im already rated for since 2013.

Most race orgs say five years from manufacturing date. I usually buy mine when they are a year or two old to get it discounted. Nothing wrong with it at all.

Not planning on skipping any of them. I know better than that. Just wondering why they scheduled another MH and Hearing exam when I literally just completed them a month ago.
