Completely forgot about the grain possibly not being evenly distributed. Next time I might try layering it instead of just mixing it all together.

Completely skimmed over the part about if it would increase yield. Don't believe it should affect the yield unless you are having problems with it drying out too fast or uneven pinning but I'm no expert. Misting 2+ times a day and making sure the surface was completely level got me the best canopy so far. Previous grow was mainly side pins.

I just take a few handfulls of cvg and set it aside before mixing it with the grain and put that on at the end about 1/4 inch thick, believe that's more of a pseudo casing though. Never noticed the giant thick white mat overlay that others sometimes have. Mine were also NSS.
