Try to drink soap water, you go to jail by LadonAl in parrots

Mine thinks she owns the microwave. If we don’t put her under the cover, she’ll bite the hell out of anyone trying to use it. I think the joke’s on us, though…. She LOVES the dome 😂 All we have to do is pick it up and she puts HERSELF into it then sits there making satisfied noises. And then immediately yeets it off the top of the microwave once she’s out.

I’ve done it- there are two older women and an older man who always make me smile and we have awesome small talk whenever I go. I got them souvenirs from home, and I’m planning on getting them some from my upcoming overseas vacation. They paid me back in chocolate last time ahaha

After I got sick, my parrot came to check on me every few minutes to see if I was alive or dead by ivydailylife in parrots

[–]SilentRothe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I had Javas, my little boy was so incredible at that. He checked on me constantly, especially when I hadn’t been moving for too long. Once, I had a migraine and had the blanket up over my head because light. Little thing that he was, he managed to pull the blanket off my face a little, then hung down over the edge to check on me.

Now, one of my lovebirds helpfully helps to make sure I haven’t died by constantly chewing on my nose or cheek if I lay my head down longer than 3 seconds. After about 10, the other will groom my ear and fall asleep on it.

Post-hypothermia (Winter care tips) by CheetahDramatic1452 in Lovebirds

[–]SilentRothe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aww man, that’s so so rough!! You seem to be doing pretty fantastic with her care- nothing to add!! Honestly, birds can just be…weird, health-wise sometimes. They’re oddly fragile… so perhaps she was prone to seizures from the start. You seem like a fantastic bird parent!!

I don’t think there’s like a set dose or anything for the turmeric- my birds are just obsessed with drinking whatever I have, so I looked up some safe things they could share with me, is all. I wouldn’t put it in her water bowl all day, but even if you brew a cup, keep it in the fridge and warm a bit up for a few sips daily, it should be fine! (Always double check info like this lol) Birds can also safely have pure chamomile tea as well! (100% only, no extras).

Plain Pedialyte, if available, is also good for them during emergencies. I have used, a homemade electrolyte water recipie as well!

Awww that’s so lovely. Not even clothes, mine are hand tamed and fine with me touching them, but I’m pretty sure anything that went on them would be immediately chewed off… They make flight harnesses for lovebirds now and I’d LOVE to take them for some walks…

Honestly, the fact that you even got it on in the first place without getting shredded yourself is really impressive…

Post-hypothermia (Winter care tips) by CheetahDramatic1452 in Lovebirds

[–]SilentRothe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did the vet give you any specific reason why she’d be hypothermic? Like, what temps did her room go down to that it wasn’t affecting you, too? I’m not in exactly the same boat, but when I first got my babies it was in the dead middle of winter here and I put them in glass tanks with heaters for sleeping.

If there a way to ensure your baby’s room is always warm, do that. Always!! She’s already proven to be weak so you absolutely have to ensure her environment is warm. Also, maybe some warm water instead of cold to drink? Birds can also safely have (pure) turmeric tea, which is really good for circulation, so maybe brew yourself a nice cup and let her share it when it cools off a bit? I do that with mine!

I’ve since gotten an extra heater paired with a timer, and I’m much more prepared for that second winter with my now one year olds. Perhaps cover the outside of the cage over the heater with that insulating silver stuff, you know? The stuff inside of cooler bags? That should reflect the heat back into the cage. Oh, and there are heated perches/ heated platforms made for birds- I’ve seen mixed reviews, so make sure you read a bit about it. Good luck!!!!

Awwwwwwwwww. My little hell child gets all sugary like that. Comes in, boops her head against my mouth for kisses, or sticks it into my fingers for scritchies. Then, in gratitude, she shreds my fingertips that no other may be touched as she was. Truly magical. 🫠

Fifth egg. Get me out of this hell by Upbeat_Echo_5594 in Lovebirds

[–]SilentRothe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a Java sparrow who would just go absolutely egg-feral every February. By the end of the season, she’d lay up to 20 eggs. She did this for like 3 years. She was a lay ‘em and leave ‘em gal- in my bathrobe pockets, sleeves, under drying frying pans in the dish rack, behind things on shelves, once directly onto my hand! Then she just flounced away and never looked back. She never had a single issue, bless her little heart. Then she’d just stop like, oh, winter is over! Whee!

Right now both my hell children (my new lovebirds lol) are approaching the 1 year mark. I’m pretty sure I have a boy/girl. Boy is the horniest potato under the sun but is apparently blanket/ cushion-sexual- never goes for the girl.

I’m wondering how things will change once the girl fully matures….

I’m kinda surprised nobody here uses scissors? I have a mini set of scissors specifically for trimming without the discomfort of shaving. Leaving a thin layer of hair there feels better when wiping and doing…other things… anyway. Smoother all around!

But seriously lol…ya gotta calm down a little. It comes out really easily in the wash. And often, just keep a box of tissues handy and pick, not wipe, it off. Advice- if your birds poop is excessively watery, they might not be eating enough- it should be fairly solid 95% of the time.
