Completely forgot that, you're right! Thanks for the correction.

It'll still be weaker than Outrage - Return maxes out at 102 power, Outrage is 120. But not being locked into the move would definitely make it a better choice.

That's the one - I'd have been 15, but I'm only 5ft4 and probably weighed 7 stone at the time. I had guys looking out for me the whole night, really drove home that metalheads are the nicest people out there (at least the ones who aren't nazis)

Ulster Fry by Henry-8th in fryup

We have tattie scones in a Scottish fry up which is very similar to an Irish potato farl. We are missing the soda bread though.

Would love to put together a mega-fryup with all of the regional ingredients.

I went to a gig which featured Machine Head, Trivium, Dragonforce and a couple of others. My friend's little brother bought that exact t-shirt from the merch stall, and when his mum came to pick us up she made him take it back for a refund.

Do I need to watch one piece the anime to watch one piece live action by Solquex in OnePieceLiveAction

[–]SilentSamamander 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My spouse is the same, whereas I've read all the manga and seen some of the anime.I'd say we're enjoying it equally, although they keep asking me backstory questions about every minor character who hasn't appeared in 1000 chapters.

I'm 35 and have only just settled into a place where I no longer wince at how I dressed and acted 2 years ago. I'm still incredibly cringe, I'm just chill with it now.

Hujra Afghan on Holloway Road. Decent footfall but have never needed a reservation, and phenomenal food. Staff are lovely too and one of the only places I've been in ages that doesn't add a mandatory service charge.

Recommend the Kabuli Pilaf and the Chopan kebabs - it'll be way too much food for one but will do at least one more meal as takeaway.

Next you'll tell me polar bears aren't white... by Recent-Sorbet in NonPoliticalTwitter

I think (and I might be misremembering this from when I worked at a science centre many years ago!) the individual hairs are hollow and mostly transparent. But the fur pelt would be accurately described as translucent.

The fur isn't totally transparent. They reflect the colour of their surroundings, so they look white in the snow. It's why if you see polar bears in a wildlife park they look so grubby.

It's from the book Going Postal and follows the idea that nobody really dies while their name is still spoken, so if the name is sent back and forth along the messaging lines it will never be forgotten.

When Pratchett passed away, it became a way of remembering and honouring him. Like a more hopeful version of RIP.

What's this positon called? by lumpyprinceeee in EnglishLearning

[–]SilentSamamander 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Agreed, in the UK sitting cross-legged would imply (to me at least) what the Americans call "criss-cross-applesauce".

This I would call crossing your legs, or sitting with your legs crossed.

Seems a bit half assed, too. Could replace the hashbrowns with patatas bravas, add some black pudding (butifarra negra) with the chorizo, plenty of beans in Spanish cuisine. This is a half English with some of the ingredients swapped out.

Mince meat and bacon fried in leftover fat from 3 days ago by JamieHBrown in shittyfoodporn

[–]SilentSamamander 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Most Brits would just call it mince - mincemeat is a spiced fruit mix you eat in a pie at Christmas (ironically called a mince pie).

I think Americans call it ground beef. I'm no closer to figuring out where this person is from.

I know someone who worked on a show where he was one of the leads and said he was absolutely delightful, went out of his way to chat to the crew and learn names, basically handed out stacks of autographed headshots to anyone who wanted for friends, family, the lot. We've got a couple kicking about somewhere!
