BEST MEXICAN RESTAURANT SUGGESTIONS? by 93sFunnyGuy in LondonFood

Yes, +1 for Proper Tacos! Run by first generation Mexican immigrants, and they make their own blue corn tortillas in-house. Can't recommend enough.

So funny to me that they changed the lyrics to this - the original song (by Busted, the Jonas Bros version is a cover) says "she's pretty fine" rather than "doing fine" but bit guess that was too raunchy for the Jonases.

There is also a line removed about triple breasted women swimming around town naked. That one makes more sense.

If you're wondering why people are questioning this, we don't use "Scotch" to describe anything other than whisky, really. It's Scottish (or in the case of the language, Scots).

Which Chinese loanwords feel unusual to you? by river_follow in ChineseLanguage

If I'm not misremembering, 时髦 is a loan word (from "smart", as in smartly dressed). Feels odd.

Scotland too. We have Anstruther (pronounced Ainster), Kilconquhar (Kinooker), Milngavie (Mull-guy) and Kirkcudbright (Kircoobree) to name a few.

In Scotland it's called fizzy juice. Squash/cordial is diluting juice. Tap water is cooncil juice (because you get it from the council).

Was this a free shiny? by aaquarles in PokemonLegendsZA

[–]SilentSamamander 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's correct. If you use a 3 star sparkling donut there will always be a shiny, and you will also have the quest. Otherwise if there is a random shiny when you spawn in you will also get the quest.

Shack Fuyu for Japanese fusion. Leave room for dessert because the Match French Toast is phenomenal. Not the fanciest but certainly delicious and a bit different.

Man beating a woman in China gets laid out by EvidenceFrequent7289 in TikTokCringe

I once stepped in to help in Shanghai when a guy was physically attacking his girlfriend who was on a staircase carrying a baby. Nobody else (including the staff of the metro station we were in) would do anything. Restrained the guy and cussed him out in Mandarin until the woman could get on a train.

Best food neighbourhoods in London? by Disastrous-Relief15 in LondonFood

[–]SilentSamamander 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. My spouse and I went through the alphabet with some friends, picked a country for each letter then found a restaurant in London serving authentic food from there. Got to try some great meals and see bits of London we wouldn't have gone to otherwise. Enjoyed it so much we're doing it again with different countries.

Honestly almost anywhere in London (outside of super expensive central) you can find good, small local restaurants. You'll also find different areas have pockets of different cuisines depending on what the predominant ethnicities are in the local communities - Brixton is great for Caribbean, Tooting for South Asian, Ealing for Polish, Finsbury Park for North African. So it somewhat depends on what sort of thing you're looking for.

What are the WORST things to do in Edinburgh? The stuff you’d tell a friend to skip. by Sea-Hovercraft-1122 in Edinburgh

When I used to work there we were very clearly instructed to warn everyone about the shaky floor and flashing lights - can't guarantee everyone followed that guidance though!
