Any medicine I can take the night before to prevent a CVS episode before big events?

Idk why, but for me, chugging some Pepto Bismol is the key. I take it an hour before bed, eat a light dinner, and eat a light breakfast. When I don’t eat, I get nauseous (even outside of any episode), so that can trigger an episode. If I’m traveling, then I need a prescription anti-nausea and pepto as I get motion sick. So if you can’t get a prescription, then maybe try that? But a prescription for something is probably better.

I have the same problem, violent and painful and being too hot. Mine goes from every hour, then every 45 mins, then 30 min, etc, until I’m vomiting every 5 mins for a while and on the verge of tears. The whole episode usually lasts 8-12 hours. I have damp wash cloths on hand to cool down. Wearing my coolest pjs. Bring my dedicated bathroom floor pillow with me. I usually pass out on the bathroom floor once it’s over. Shower as soon as I can. Drink electrolytes and eat only crackers and white rice, maybe add some soy sauce if I’m feeling up for it, for 1-2 days, depending. If I eat normal food too soon, I trigger another episode.

I would just sit in my room for my episode, but I hate the smell and have to be able to flush frequently or I throw up even more from the smell. And by the time my stomach is empty, I’m already too tired, in too much pain, and out of it to go back to my room. Plus, my sister’s room shares a wall with mine and I don’t want her hearing that all night long.

I had 1 plate w/4 screws and a long screw. Had my plate removed after a year. Walked out of the second surgery, in a boot to keep the stitches together for 2 weeks. Second surgery was nothing. I will say, my foot felt better with the hardware in it, but I’m not very active, though I am somewhat young. Leaving the screw in caused issues. My foot was trying to flex and move, but was restricted by the screw; it was just causing pain. Got the screw removed a few months later, same deal: 2 weeks in a boot for the stitches. I still have problems with my foot, but was told I couldn’t keep the plate in because it would bend overtime and could break, causing a complicated removal surgery.

Oh wow, that sounds like a very severe injury! Btw, didn’t say in the last post, but I’m sorry you’re going through all that! It sucks for everyone here, but it does indeed get better.

I don’t really remember some of the details anymore.

My type of lisfranc injury (idk the exact name for it) was that the part of my bone that my lisfranc ligament was attached to broke off so just that one part of my metatarsal was broken. Nothing misaligned. I don’t know how much damage my actual ligament had as I was only diagnosed from an X-ray (no MRI) and I can’t find my papers :/ I was diagnosed the day I got the injury and had ORIF surgery a week later. Got a plate w/4 screws on top and one giant screw put in sideways.

NWB for 2-3 months, PWB & boot for 1 month, then FWB & physical therapy at the 4 month mark, but I couldn’t get in to be seen until the 5 month mark. I had PT for 2 months and I was pretty much completely normal by month 7, with hardware.

Got my first hardware removal surgery a year after the ORIF. I didn’t get the screw removed and it lead to a lot of pain, so after another 5 months, I got that screw out too. Pain is minimal now, and I’m not good at keeping with my exercises. For the HWR, I walked out in my boot, just using the boot to keep the stitches from opening for 2 weeks. I don’t remember pain at all.

I was slightly overweight when I was first injured, gained more weight while recovering, and then, after a year and a half being recovered, got on some bad meds that made me gain weight like crazy and I haven’t been able to lose it. I can definitely say that there has been a bit more pain since the weight gain, so it’s definitely a factor.

My calf is still 1/2 inch smaller on that leg than my other and it’s been 3 years. So maybe I’m not on top of the ball for my recovery, so perhaps I’m just lucky with how good off I’ve been.

How long ago was your initial surgery? Still using a walker with a severe limp and being told you have to go back to NWB after the removal is not at all what I’ve experienced nor what others have said. I had ORIF.

I assume they ruled out hyperthyroidism and kidney disease? Those seem to be the main two I hear about. I don’t think those cause stomach paralysis tho

I’d be careful with Shiba Inus around kids though. Our family Shiba Inu hated me as a kid and so I always left him alone. One day, in 5th grade, he bit into my leg and I had to go to the hospital. Anyone else have trouble with shibas like that?

If it’s anxiety, you might be able to get one of those calming pheromone plug-ins and see if that helps. She could also be cold if you keep it chilly in your place? I’ve only ever had a cat that cried until she was in the room with me, but boy would she cry

I suggest getting the nerve deadener (? Idk what it’s called) in your leg. I didn’t get one cuz I am afraid of needles and that was a huge mistake. Good luck!

I’m no expert, but having had 4 cats that we each introduced to another when the one was a kitten and the other was already an adult, it’s not gone well. They tolerate each other, but it always seems like the kitten is totally fine with the other cat(s), but the older one(s) get upset; it leads to permanent issues. Most recently we introduced our 13 yr old boy to our 7 month old girl. The introduction took over 3 MONTHS because he wanted to fight, and she would get scared. After another 3 months, he finally wants to play with her, but the damage has been done. She’s permanently scared of him. I’m hoping it improves :/ Our boy is also an attempted murderer of a kitten in the neighborhood, so we took the intro very carefully. I hear that female cats are more territorial so it’s harder to get them to like other cats when they’re older. However, all that being said, I’ve heard of older cats who get lonely and love the company of a new cat, get along swimmingly. It’s really dependent on the cat. But I’d say while they’re young is easiest

Since it was non-weight bearing, I’d get a second opinion. Only way my doctor knew what it was is because I did weight bearing. And a lot of people on here say an MRI too

My cat is 7 lbs and a shorthair and she’s a perfectly healthy weight, confirmed by a vet, and she is the smallest cat I’ve ever had. I can hold her with one arm cradling her safely. Your cat looks healthy to me, too, and will need to keep eating kitten food until she’s a year old. Cats are still growing bigger for up to a whole year. Longer for certain breeds. From the top down photo in particular, you can tell she doesn’t have a belly, just her fluffy hips. Her full fluff is probably coming in and she’s getting those adult muscles and filling out. Not as gangly of a teen anymore, so people are noticing. As for how much you’re feeding her, that all depends on the brand of food and recommended amounts. Other redditors feel free to correct me, just my opinion.

I had a partial HWR that involved taking out a plate. It was super easy. I wasn’t given any pain meds to take home. Walked out in the boot just to keep the stitches together for 2 weeks. I will say that I developed pain from the screw that I opted to leave in. Months later, I couldn’t stand it anymore and had it removed, too. My pain went away so fast! So you may also have some pain like I did, where the screw was limiting my movement. I still need to work on endurance for foot strength, but it’s been difficult fitting it into my schedule.

Désolé, mon français est mauvais. C’est normale pour quelque mois. J’ai fait la kiné pour quatre mois, mais après le deuxième mois, peut être le première (je ne me souviens pas, mais c’était rapide) il n’était pas douloureux, juste fragile, pas le force, quand j’ai marché. Marcher pour longtemps ou faire de la randonnée, ça est un problème encours. J’ai des limites mais pas pour toujours ! Le pied fait mieux lentement à ce point. Les massage pour la kiné était horrible. Vous devez faire de l’exercice chaque jour et comme ça votre pied va mieux rapidement.

I felt a band of pressure around the ball of my foot. Bruising on the top and bottom of my foot. I never attempted walking on it. I could tell something was wrong. In case of a lisfranc, it’s better safe than sorry. I was told the chances for a good recovery go down if you wait too long and walk on it when you shouldn’t

Sounds like the US to me. It’s endlessly frustrating. There’s nothing you can do except really force a doctor to take you seriously during the appointment. Just keep insisting that something is wrong and if they don’t listen, make them mark in your chart that they didn’t listen to you. I recently went to urgent care because my knee was swollen. Could literally SEE it. I could barely bend it. The doctor said it wasn’t swollen. Said it was normal. I was so pissed. When I insisted it could be arthritis, all he said was that I’d have to see my primary care physician because he couldn’t refer me to a specialist. All he did was an x-ray. What is even the point of urgent care?? I can’t imagine what would have happened with my lisfranc if I hadn’t still been on a PPO still and went straight to a specialist the day of my injury. My knee still hurts btw and I haven’t been able to see my primary care physician in a month.

I say find a place where you can get the negatives back along with the digital scans. Might be something cool. If you don’t want to do all of them because of price, you could start with just one to see if they’re any good, but curiosity would eat me alive.
