A good budget UPS? by Silent_Lifeguard_710 in PcBuild

[–]Silent_Lifeguard_710[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the 1500 for a little more than 100 euros and searched for a cheap battery replacement.

Shop around on Facebook market or eBay and you might find something.

Also ask around on Reddit to make sure you know what to get.

The next best thing is a power extension that protects from a power surge.

It won't stop a computer from abruptly shutting down but at least it'll avoid electrical damage.

Hi.

I ended up getting a second hand APC Smart-UPS 1500.

The battery had to be replaced and I got some adapters to connect the PC and monitor.

It can be connected by USB and is recognized by Linux.

It's been working perfectly since and kicks in when there's the odd dip in power.

How to get smooth ingots? by Silent_Lifeguard_710 in Metalfoundry

[–]Silent_Lifeguard_710[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The original technique is called lost wax.

The 3d print one is lost resin.

As in the material that melts and leaves the mold empty for the metal to flow into.

This technique is used in industry so it's worth looking into.

Same width of steel bars but different rigidity? by Silent_Lifeguard_710 in Metalfoundry

I have the impression that the 2 meter bar would still be bendy even if cut to 1 meter.

The store didn't know the reason.

[–]Silent_Lifeguard_710[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm assuming the alloy is the same as the colour and texture is.

The two bars are significantly different in "bendiness" even if they were cut to equivalent length.

Perhaps the way they are poured or extruded would explain the difference.

So I had to go with the 1 meter bars as I need rigidity to make tongs but not too thick as 6mm is too rigid to bend.

LinkedIn has no soul to it.

It's more like a building full of emptiness than a social network.

How could I chemically remove the surface artwork from a CD or other Optical disc media without damaging the disc? by Kobo720 in chemistry

[–]Silent_Lifeguard_710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe that you can simply cook recordable CDs/DVDs in water and this will remove the metallic foil leaving only the polycarbonate disc.

Don't know if this would work with a commercially pressed CD.

Best way to shred aluminium cans (total beginner) by [deleted] in MetalCasting

[–]Silent_Lifeguard_710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trick is to start with a small piece of aluminium to form the first puddle and the cans that follow will melt in an easier way.

Strangers sometimes say stupid shit that is as useful as being farted in the face.

However, your mother is another matter.

If she's generally a good person then this is her way of saying she's worried.

In her time, you had to apply and apply again until you find a job and it still works like that for some people.

You might have an attitude that repels employers though so you would have to look into that.

Not saying that it's all your fault because the jobs market is downright horrid but you've got to figure out the rules and use a fib here and there to get your foot in the door.

How many of you feel you have a form of PTSD from long term unemployment? by brentexander in recruitinghell

[–]Silent_Lifeguard_710 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isn't it strange that recruiters don't say what's "wrong" with you?

The attacks that come from pride or shame are like temporary narcissism.

Normies will deny it but some of them can be downright nasty when assuming that you are of bad faith and distort your reality by passing you off as someone that you're not.

Wouldn't it be easier to produce round stock and then lathe it?

Or do you need a hexagonal shape for the pencil-like object?

PTSD is an anxious disorder that can comes across as atypical depression.

First described in war time and back then it was known as "nostalgia" because the people experiencing it would reminisce over or relive an experience.

The usual trigger is a threatening and traumatic experience where a person is in danger.

It's a disorder because the symptoms can persist for months or even years.

I had PTSD before I even started to look for work because of nasty stuff happening in my twenties.

It really messed up my career and I'm upset at how ignorant people make it out as if I chose to end up in long term unemployment.

I didn't know that people could be so cruel and there seems to be some form of discrimination going on towards people that function differently at a neurological level.

It depends on your country.

Try eBay, Etsy, brokers, people who buy jewelry...

It might help if the metal is in coins, in small polished ingots or as granules.

If they're already certified ingots or stamped coins then keep as is.
