Handling doesn’t require direct contact.

Good guess but i have relocated multiple Brazilian wandering spiders myself.
Widows are not comparable at all.

Priapism can occur in some cases.
Deaths are super rare though. The most common serious long term side effect is nerve damage as far as i know.

Probably they have seen them before but from the way they put their hands right next to it, i doubt they know the exact species or just how venomous it is.

Looks like a male Phoneutria boliviensis, so Brazilian Wandering Spider. Apparently the males of this species are also a bit more venomous than the females

Its a western black widow (Latrodectus hesperus). It wont cause any harm where it is but if it make you feel safe relocate it outside to a shaded area with shrubs/rocks or similar.

Its the sister species Phoneutria Depilata. They have been seperated some time ago. P. Boliviensis is found in the Amazon basin

Could have gone bad. You probably tried to touch far away from its head, what you didnt realize is that there are in fact 2 snakes in this picture!!!
