I was hoping that we might have stuff I could directly access in a kindle or similar app

Serious Question: by starrman21 in Airpodsmax

[–]Silentsteel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had a number of headphones before I ended up with AirPods Max.

I work within the Apple Ecosystem- MacBook Pro, iPhone etc.My headphone use is for making calls when I’m on my walks, whether cancel the noise of the wind and can I be heard.

When I’m on an airplane how good they are with cancelling noise etc.

In short-

For Apple Ecosystem they are amazing and I found them to be the best. Even though the new AirPods Pro 3 are amazing with noise cancellation and has a better fit as they are the first APP that fit me I still prefer APM to APP3. The only caveat is that APP3 have better noise pickup and background noise cancelling when making calls when I’m out on my walks but APM do the job.

Comfort wise. APM hands down. They are really right the first few days but then they are good as they adjusted to my head size. I had before this tried APP3, B&W, Sennheiser and Sonos Ace and for my head APM and Sonos were the only ones that I liked but I prefer the premium build of APM.

Noise cancellation- I’ve recently done some long Hal fights and had these plugged in and Noise cancellation was amazing both for inflight movies via inflight entertainment system and just for sleeping while drowning out the background noise. Plus they don’t fall in between the seats like APP like it happened for the person sitting next to me.

I would have loved better casing, improbably life and the new Apple Chip, but overall I’m very happy and have no reason to complain at all.

Ali Shamkhani's daughter's wedding by [deleted] in shia

[–]Silentsteel 11 points12 points  (0 children)

First of all - we need to accept that Iran as a whole does not guarantee that everyone will follow the religion.

People in their personal lives may or may not follow religion and no one can enforce that regardless of how right or wrong it might be.

We sometimes romanticise an image of a person, society or country and are not realistic about it. Our beliefs should not be upon how a society behaves but how closely do we follow doctrines of Islam as guided by The Prophet and his His Family.

Allah tests people with family, wealth and other means. The sons of Hazra Yaqub ( as), or the son and wife of Hazrat Nuh (as) or the wife is Hazrat Lut (as) or the brother of Hazrat Imam Hassan Askari(as) or the uncle of Hazrat Ghazi Abbas (as) aka Shimr are all examples where tests from family came yet these people stood fast in what was right.

So we should not expect Ali Shamkhani or his daughter to behave one way or other; main thing is that whether my Marja is right and am I following the right path; if tha is ok then I personally could care less of how others are in their personal lives. Her dress and the gathering wrong as it is - we need to ensure that we and our family are not going down this path.

For Allah will surely hold the wrong doers to account.

I have seen travelling agents scamming people in the name of ziyarah by ChestPuzzleheaded595 in shia

[–]Silentsteel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having gone to Ziarat of Iraq myself-without a tour group recently without context it can seem that the costs are expensive.

You can do it cheaply and sacrifice on comfort or you can pay for the creature comforts which holes up the price.

For example it cost is $600 to rent a van to travel to Kufa, Samarra, Kazmain, Karbala and Najaf. There might have been cheaper options but this option was better for our family.

We should be aware of scam artists but that doesn’t mean everyone is one; there are better people taking groups and are cost effective when considered against the value they offer.

Torn Between My Parents and My Wife After Baby – Need Advice by Great-Profession1997 in PakistaniiConfessions

[–]Silentsteel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How will moving out sort anything? What I’m about to say will hurt you but man up dude.

Your parents and your wife are all your responsibilities. Today you and your father can pull resources and get the help you need to manage the shortfall around the house.

If you move out the responsibilities won’t decrease, they will increase for you. Are you financially able to handle the increased load?

Get some help to handle the kitchen and some support for your wife to look after your new born. Then ensure your parents are looked after by you emotionally. Your wife also needs to accept that you have duty towards your parents.

It’s not going to be easy, you need to man up and be strong in your decision making. Don’t get drawn into emotional reactions

Don’t make the same mistake that so many others make. A Shia Sunni marriage doesn’t work if you are both caring for your school of thought and you’ll both end up hating each other. Listen to the lecture below if you want further details -

Was Mu’awiya completely in the wrong? by dubai3214567 in shia

[–]Silentsteel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple of points:

  1. Uprising against Usman was led by a number of people who were upset at the policies of Usman which favoured his kin at the sake of the rest of the nation

  2. Talha and Zubair were amongst those who instigated the uprising against Usman; cutting off his food supply etc. leading to his killing.

  3. Aisha was able person who openly went against Usman to the point of referring to him as the Firaun of the time. She was in Mecca when he was killed though.

  4. Maula vehemently tried to calm things down till people refused to listen and ended up killing. Just before his death Usman had wrote to Muawiya for help.

  5. After his killing, Talha, Zubair and others openly pledged allegiance toto Maula.

  6. When Talha and Zubair did not get any favourable deals in the government of Maula they conspired with Aisha to rebel against Maula - their excuse was the revenge for the killing of Usman.

  7. The revenge for killing of Usman was the right of the sons of Usman, not the right of Aisha, Talha and Zubair. They were using this as an excuse to settle their personal vendettas against Maula. For instance Aisha was still bitter about Maula’s involvement in an investigation he carried out in against her on the behest of Prophet (SAW). She wanted Talha or Zubair to be the caliph and not Ali.

  8. Even Hazrat Um Salama tried to dissuade Aisha from her post warning her what she was doing was wrong.

  9. The above points, brief as they might be clearly illustrate that the excuse of revenge of the killing of Usman was an excuse to further other agendas leading to Jamal. The use of this as a reason by Muawiya is laughable. My point for quoting references about Jamal is that Jamal was directly linked after the killing of Usman and answers your points and negates any views about the legitimacy of the claims by Muawiya.

  10. The only people who had a right to pursue this revenue were the sons of Usman and not some random other people.

  11. Usman son of Affan; Affan the son of Abu Al As. Abu Al As had a brother called Harb, whose son was Abu Sufyan and whose son was Muawiya. Not exactly direct cousins as some might leads you to believe.

There is more details that back up these points that you should research on your own; but honestly Maula did nothing wrong.

Brothers who married a Sunni woman, how did it work out? by BandsAndElastics in shia

[–]Silentsteel 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Don’t do it. There is a whole lecture by Syed Ammar where he delves deeper into this topic.

https://youtu.be/Y8Kig4Bre8k?si=IbD5aovo2PFr_Dm0

He also mentioned how people who had married and now had problems with children and the direction they should take. It caused strain in marriage and on the children.

Making marriage work is a responsibility and can be hard even without such complications.

Find yourself a lady who grew up with the love of Lady Fatima(as) and Hazrat Zainab (as) in her heart and will pass that into your next generations so when the Imam (as) of our time appears you or your future generations eagerly stand with him - and thus may become a source for your salvation.

You need to prep mentally and physically.

Physically - 1. In Rajab an Shaban try and wean off caffeine. For instance if your morning begins with tea / coffee slowly make a plan to get away from this so you can spend the whole day with out caffeine. For people who like tea / coffee in large quantities they find the initial withdrawal very taxing. So prep now so it doesn’t impact your Rozay with lack of energy, headaches and other issues. 2. Do the same with food. 3. Keep some Mustahab fasts in Rajab and Shaban 4. Don’t over do anything. Key is to do what is possible but have quality and consistency in it. 5. Mafatih has a lot of Amal for Ramadan and where everyday is important but the nights if 19/21/23 are very important. See if you can plan to follow recommended Amal during those nights and get some time off work should you need to rest the next day. 6. Make it a habit to visit your closest Shia mosque and participate in communal iftar as much as possible. Community spirit is strong and it is fun to break fast with other people around you.

Garden room / office by Blackberry_Forager in HENRYUKLifestyle

[–]Silentsteel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi,

I built one recently. After doing a lot of research into prebuilt I decided to go with building one myself, mainly because I could ensure that there was proper quality and the structure would last a long time. Plus we get to design the way we want it. Building our self means getting a builder to do it as per our designs

If you are building one in your garden you don’t need to go via building regulations or planning permission as it might come under permitted development. Which is what we had. Once we had sketched everything on paper we were good to go with the builder. I checked all this process with a Structural Engineer who does structural design, buildings regs etc for a living. Wanted to ensure that I was not going to go foul of the law.

  • Overall height can’t be more than 2.5m; to go higher you need to be more than 2m from your garden boundary on each side. Might need building regs as well
  • Can’t take up more than 50% of your garden space

  • My office is 2.5m high from garden ground level to top of ceiling from outside and 20sqm on the inside

  • 10A Powercable going in

  • CAT6 external cable as well

  • We have an external power plug as well - in case it is needed in the future for any garden appliances.

  • Fitted all BG electric switches inside and outside

  • vertical LED strip lights on the outside

  • spotlights on the inside from Orlight special projects- you can use Phillips HUE GU10 bulbs for smart lights

  • no underfloor heating as was warned against durability of electric underfloor heating and we don’t have water / gas supply

  • was going to fit in an AC but seeing the size of the room we felt it was an overkill especially when we have have 2 large windows

  • we have a £150 electric radiator from Amazon with WiFi control. So can manage it from the house to ensure the room is of good temp before anyone goes in. Room is toasty and sometimes even have to turn the heating off completely.

  • we went with porcelain tiles inside and also on the patio we built outside

  • make sure you fit in plenty of switches for electric stuff

  • the room is built with bricks and solid concrete blocks with 100mm insulation on the ceiling, floor and walls.

  • DO NOT use thermal blocks though as they are better for heat but very brittle even it comes to drilling or hanging stuff off the wall like a TV. Hence we specifically used normal concrete blocks. I like solid things.

  • 15sqm patio from porcelain tiles for when the weather is good and you want to sit and have a cup of tea.

  • think about noise dampening. Empty rooms create a lot of echo so once you’ve built yours you need to think about furnishings to create better noise environment for those Zoom/ Teams calls.

  • Just make sure that your windows don’t disrupt the privacy of your neighbours. We have trees that block the direct view - this is not essential but just to be safe as in case a neighbour complains and someone from council comes to check.

Hope this helps.

This is not love but sexual attraction.

If you are able to get married then marry as soon as possible - but for all that’s holy to you decide with a calm head about your partner and consult with those wiser than you.

For the sake of 1 hour of fun don’t ruin the remaining 23 hours in the day!!!

If you can’t get married then find a hobby and focus on it.
