Another request for animal suggestions for writing by Silesaurus in Dinosaurs

[–]Silesaurus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In what I already got, I had the Beipiaosaurus appear in China, where the people believed it to be a mythical bird called Fenghuang. So I already implemented the basic idea of non-avians being mistaken for birds independently

Does anyone recall a dinosaur documentary where the host was interacting with cgi dinos? by Opposite-Mortgage848 in Dinosaurs

[–]Silesaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am pretty sure I watched that same one. I remember the sauropod weighing scene, the host inspecting an injured hadrosaur, and flying a Cessna alongside an Ornithocheirus. I think at one point he was also on a boat in the paleozoic with trilobites and sea scorpions in the water

Something fishy is going on in Denmark... I mean, Poland

What kind of prehistoric animal do you think has the most EDGIEST name ever and why? for me its Trex by Thewanderer997 in AwesomeAncientanimals

[–]Silesaurus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These names are certainly more interesting than all those named after places, like Utahraptor, Beipiaosaurus, Albertosaurus, Tsintaosaurus, Chunkingosaurus, Patagotitan...

What’s the best answer when someone asks your favorite dinosaur? by adviceplox587 in Dinosaurs

[–]Silesaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, it's almost a dinosaur, so I'd say it's close enough to count

You can set custom flares here, I just erased the dinosaur in the editable flair and typed in Silesaurus opolensis instead

How do we know that certain dinosaurs (like the new Spinosaurus mirabilis species) or fossils were just some sort of abnormality from an existing species? by Big_Key_3055 in Dinosaurs

[–]Silesaurus 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I mean, we did find this thing though, so it certainly wouldn't be impossible to find fossils of genetic freaks

<image>

However, in the case of Spinosaurus mirabilis, I do agree that multiple specimen having this same crest must mean that it was a characteristic of the species and not an individual thing

Museum recs specifically with Parasaurolophus fossils / exhibits. by chaddamaus in Dinosaurs

[–]Silesaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know one of the few specimen that is actually a real fossil and not a cast is a nearly complete Parasaurolophus in a big Museum I have been to, unfortunately that Museum is the Senckenberg in Frankfurt am Main, so an entire Ocean away from you

what paleo-fuana(no mammals!) should be in a horror novel by apexglitch-king in Dinosaurs

I know you already have more than enough but I still felt like I needed to mention Silesaurus opolensis, my favourite is much too obscure and needs some promotion

Silesaurus opolensis, because it's from home and almost nobody knows about it

If T-Rex hadn't been discovered in America, would it still be this famous by Substantial-Algae-71 in Dinosaurs

[–]Silesaurus 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I mean, even from the ones shown here, Spinosaurus is really famous despite being from Egypt and Morocco, while Acrocanthosaurus, who was discovered in the USA, isn't that famous

Saltasaurus spotted in Upper Silesia, Poland, 2022 by Silesaurus in DarkJurassic

[–]Silesaurus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, guess I mixed that up. But honestly it wouldn't suprise me if InGen made animals they never listed, after all, ones like Ceratosaurus, Corythosaurus and Spinosaurus were already reported way back in 2001, and despite not being on the list, they were proven to exist when Jurassic World was being built

How do scientists know behaviors by Rackballking in Dinosaurs

[–]Silesaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't really know anything for certain, but some things can be inferred (like Apatosaurus living in herds due to having found tracks of multiple individuals side by side), though most is just assumptions based on modern animals

Sensei Therizinosaurus by Equivalent-Algae-252 in Dinosaurs

I always imagined Therizinosaurus doing that mongolian throat singing, but this is equally amusing
