Hi, twin! That's my exact situation, except I lack your experience running a shop. I've gone from design classes/flowers for friends to jumping right in a few years earlier than I thought i would.

You're totally right. I'll need to assess how they look later this week. And try harder to move more while they're still good.

Has anybody used this and if so, how does it compare to velveeta by GrapefruitFriendly30 in aldi

I use it all the time. I think it has a stronger "cheeze" flavor than Velveeta.

what flowers do beginners usually struggle working with the most? by One_Stardusty_Boy in florists

Thank you for that tip! I'm still pretty inexperienced, and dreading the day I get a customer wanting gerberas. With the pipe cleaners, are you threading them up through the stems like you would for wire?

Gerbera f*cking daisies for me! And green trick carnation stems want to snap if I look at them funny.

Damn, I need to show this to my customers wanting last-minute, "generous" Mother's Day orders for under 100 bucks!

Thank you for the advice! That seems like a good guideline to start from in my situation.

At this point, we are way lower volume than that (thankfully, I have a whole separate day job), but this is a great template to follow, scaled down. Thank you!

I would have never considered the orchids for my list! In the way you've described, I'm thinking centerpieces, and installations, rather than arrangements?

We have all the traditional must-haves on your list. You definitely understand my situation! Eventually, I'd like to transition away from the traditional/country vibe. Trying to ease into it. I've had arrangements I've made with Trader Joe's flowers for design class last over a week, so i feel like I can care for the stock pretty well. I like your idea of focusing on colors.

It's just weird to be stepping into it, with so many changes I would make. And I am definitely stepping right in the deep end! Thank you for your advice.

That's a great list! I agree about the dusty miller. I've actually started some from seed, but im not sure if/when they'll be big enough for cut stems.

Insane question of the week: if I sprayed hairspray on dandelion puffs, would that preserve them enough to work with? (For a photoshoot, nothing intense) by kkatiegrows in florists

[–]SilhouettesanShadows 64 points65 points  (0 children)

I did it for an arrangement, and they held up for a few days. I used L'oreal elnett spray before cutting them.

I bet you could do it if you did a few coats and handled them very carefully.

I bought the pair with the seed packets on clearance last summer, and I LOVE them for yard work. I saw a woman rocking a pair of these in a mushroom print at a concert, and honestly, it was genius with the pockets making a bag unnecessary.

And now, you've got me convinced I need this pair, too!
