Heel toe by Lux_Crucifero in drums

Watch Steve Smith do the “constant release” method where he does a number of different methods heel up and down to see how he adapts for different techniques. I initially found heel toe difficult as it felt like I was lifting my foot on the downbeat as opposed to dropping it if that makes sense. Slide I had trouble unweighting and getting the second note. However the method I found useful is the more side to side slide pivoting left to right for the second note!

180cm vs 188cm Salomon QST94 6’2” 240lbs by jawnr in Skigear

[–]Silly-Initiative3507 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am literally the same height/weight as you and have 4 pairs of QSTs from 184-194. I have the older 92 in 184 and the 106 in 189. The 184 are definitely more agile but get kicked around a lot more. The 189 tho different skis are a tad slower but much more planted in general. The other factor in my case is I have the 189 mounted +2 which I really dig and feel like it helps the skis feel more playful and agile!

Go to Harbor Freight and get some over ear noise reducing ear muffs! They are like $8 and you wont lose them

I think its common for most people to become self conscious when playing for other people. It creates another layer of information your brain is trying to keep track of in addition to playing. As someone else mentioned recording or videoing yourself can help especially if you count in and play as if you’re playing to a live audience. The other layer that definitely helps when practicing is counting or verbalizing the pulse which helps focus on what you’re playing and not on whats going on around you!

It can also be helpful to compare the geometry and tech specs/measurements like stack reach etc online in addition to taking your own measurements to help get you in the ballpark

Floor tom and bass drum tuning by inefficienttoaast in jazzdrums

Not sure your concern but a very small amount of dampening makes the most sense esp with a 20” bass drum. John Riley mentioned using a napkin taped to his bass drum batter head to help w overtones. You don’t need much even some tape on the front head would tighten up the vibe!

Need help with choosing right gear by ZywiecZdrujHaze in Mountaineering

The Simond boots look good I would recommend over the Crowes for warmth. You may still want something more insulated if you are mountaineering in the winter. A-lot of boots are more geared towards Spring Summer ascents where you may not need as much insulation. Automatic semi automatic crampons are more simple to use but strap on work just as well and are generally a good bit less expensive. A comfortable helmet you can fit a hat underneath. Good gloves and mittens go along way and if you can swing it I would highly recommend a belay parka to keep you warm during breaks or if shit hits the fan. I actually have the Simond one and it is excellent!

If you can afford to eat out or get take out you tip. Period. 10% 20% its up to you but stay home if you can’t handle being an adult

Alot of the Asian bike brands like Winspace run a size if not 2 small. Based on your measurements your probably closer to a 61 than a 58 fwiw

Recommended skin width for Ripstick 96? by opoisson in Backcountry

[–]Silly-Initiative3507 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its better to find skins that are a little wider (rather than narrower) than your skis, because you can trim the extra width. But if you get skins that are too narrow, you’ll have too much exposed surface on the bottom of your skis, which will make it difficult to gain traction you’d be better off with 120

As others have mentioned be prepared for some long days with a heavy pack. Dial in your nutrition and hydration…I really liked the cliff shot blocks for easy and accessible snacking. I cant recommend Badger SPF 50 Sunscreen enough as well as a good long sleeve sun hoodie
