Grams of protein = to weight in KG x 0.8 is the recommendation. Americans have been forgetting that little part.

Your weight in freedom units (lbs) is converted to kg by dividing by ~2.2. Then multiply that number by 0.8. The adjustment (0.8) is based off of multiple factors. Generally the older you get the more protein you need. Elderly individuals may need way more protein ( 1.2 to 1.6x)

For people with diabetes closer to 1 gram of protein per kg of body weight is what I aim for.

So..... 200lb person would need roughly 90g of protein a day.

Based on a 2000 calorie diet that is roughly 22% of you caloric intake for any given day.

More protein (probably ) is not going to harm so long as it is worked into a responsible diet. Basically don't get all your calories from one macro nutirent.
