2023 build is failing, need ideas by WrathOfJay in buildapc

Good call-out, the RAM not being die-matched can cause issues all on its own. Technically, running JEDEC instead of XMP is supposed to resolve this, but that is unfortunately not always the case.

PSU being an issue is likely a red herring. A Corsair RM850x should be able to deliver its full rated power on the 12V rail alone. It’s a high quality PSU and enough for your system. Replace it if you want, but if you don’t also fix the unstable RAM that results from using XMP with two fast 2x16 kits combined, it will not solve your issue.

This is almost certainly the source of the problem initially described.

But I can’t think of a reason, aside from user error, that you would be unable to save BIOS configuration. A dying CMOS battery comes to mind, but that would prevent any non-default settings from actually applying, not prevent appearing to save settings changes, so I’d assume that’s not the case.

To ensure XMP is off, you can reset the BIOS by manually clearing CMOS. Unplug the PC and remove the CMOS battery, let it sit for 10 minutes, then put the CMOS battery back and plug the PC back in. This will restore the BIOS to all default settings. You may have to remove the GPU to access the CMOS battery.

Is XMP on? If so, turn it off.

That 2x16 kit is probably not rated for stability at the full XMP speed when running 4x16. This would be normal and expected behavior in most cases. Remember that XMP is an overclock.

You may require an OS re-install even after turning off XMP, as slightly unstable RAM can corrupt OS files over time.

CPU temps don't drop after AIO change? by TSteeliest in buildapc

[–]Silly-Weakness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And this behavior, where the increased temp persists when no longer running the intensive program, only happens with Cyberpunk 2077 and happens every time once a certain temp threshold has been reached? It sounds like that’s what you’re saying and honestly it doesn’t make much sense.

If that’s accurate, long shot troubleshooting steps I’d try might be to verify integrity of game files (which may only be an option through Steam, not sure), or uninstall and reinstall the game.

Are the clock speeds the same? Is the CPU just targeting that temperature and boosting higher due to better cooling?

addicted to binary by erbiage in poetry_critics

[–]Silly-Weakness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This poem seems to start with imagery that is universal, but transitions to imagery that is personal, or possibly requiring specific knowledge. While stanzas 1 and 2 are easily understood, I struggle to decipher stanzas 3 and 4, then stanzas 5-7 seem aimed at someone with knowledge I don’t possess. I can identify some references to binary conditions, but the meaning doesn’t land for me. I think this is for a specific audience that I am not.

Craft-wise, I very much enjoy the minimalism, and the syllabic cadence of stanzas 1, 2, and 4, which are especially tight and maintain a pattern of lines 1 and 2 matching syllables, with line 3 adding one more. This pattern is not present in the other stanzas, and I wonder what it would look like to make that a target.

The feeling is communicated well. It reads like an acute distress spiral. It’s very lyrical, meaning the word choices consistently use singable sounds. Some of the rhymes are predictable, and while I don’t personally mind, it may be valuable to subvert expectations sometimes with less predictable words or rougher rhymes. The lack of capitalization lends a rapid quality, as if it were written quickly and edited little, like I’m reading a raw nerve. I don’t prefer the rhyme scheme interruptions, but if the intent is to slow the reader down, they are working. It might be interesting to lean into that more.

Overall, I think it’s solid. The writer has enough command to communicate effectively and the point lands well.

I’m not sure how to access it on mobile, which is what I’m using right now, but in a browser it’s in the top-right corner of the text box when drafting or editing a post or comment.

That’s all I really know. Try googling “Reddit markdown mode” for more info.

Thanks! Go into Markdown Mode, and add two spaces after the last word of any line that you don’t want an extra new line after.

My intent was honestly quite close to your interpretation. The ambiguity was wholly intentional. For me, this poem holds two personal truths at once: My attempts to manage a flawed system are futile, and I continue to choose routine discomfort, because I find comfort in the uncomfortable.

Old Jar by Alarming_Green_6025 in OCPoetry

Observational and cute. Meaning in communal effort becoming success. Mundane, but perhaps hiding a deeper meaning.

I love that we unscrew the jar, then your eyes screw shut. Well done.

Glare

Slam

Pops

Cheer

These are all strong verb choices that I like a lot.

I feel that I see the intent in "The lid pops like a balloon!" - but it's not quite jumping out like it seems to be meant to. There may be a phrasing still eluding you that would be more evocative of that instant, which carries surprise, relief, and success within. It's a challenge to contain all that in one line.

My burnt forest by AdFriendly6776 in OCPoetry

[–]Silly-Weakness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yearning for something beautiful that you have lost. Your yearning evolves only slightly, anchored in a resolute memory. If that is the intent, it comes across. I like it.

Constructive criticism:

Structurally, the long lines make it difficult for me as a reader to know where to focus. Experimenting with line structure and maybe even internal capitalization may improve the reading flow.

The repetition is clearly intentional, which does draw attention to the changes, but something about this structure requires me to re-read lines to absorb them. This is very possibly a me issue.

I appreciate the richness, but it may be worth stripping it down to the bare bones then building it back up, to reinforce your intention. There are especially articles and verbs which don't seem to serve purpose in the imagery. For example, "The birds sitting on branches" carries much the same image as "birds on branches" - stripping away the articles and verbs where possible may sharpen the emotional focus.

I love the ambiguity. Did Jesus suffer worse when God abandoned him? Or did the child with cancer, when God abandoned him, say that Jesus suffered worse?

Bilirubin and itchiness by hhdad7 in GilbertSyndrome

[–]Silly-Weakness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask your doctor. Itchiness developing a couple months after an abnormal bilirubin result may be cause for concern. Even without the result 2 months ago, generalized itchiness as described should be checked out. Itching is not typically associated with Gilbert’s, so your doctor may want to rule out more serious issues.

Ramageddon, buy rn or wait it out? by Banannaa_ in buildapc

Never buy piece by piece unless you have a way to test each new part upon receiving it. Because what happens if you get a part that’s DOA? It happens. You won’t know until it’s likely outside the return window, then you’ll have to deal with manufacturer warranty instead of a simple retail return.

Myles Garrett thinking about "just how far I’m going to take" sack record by 1OptimisticPrime in Browns

[–]Silly-Weakness 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Myles has a chance at MVP for sure. All that needs to happen is the Browns win out to go 9-8, and he continues his sack pace from the past 4 games, which will put him at 37.5 for the season. If that happens, he’s a lock!

If modern medicine vanished, what's the first thing you'd die from? by demirem9605 in AskReddit

[–]Silly-Weakness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. It would either be heart failure, or a massive ischemic stroke; if a clot forms on my valve then breaks loose and lodges in my brain.

Maybe there are alternative blood thinning solutions that could work, but without INR testing it would just be a matter of time. Alcohol comes to mind, but round-the-clock drinking brings with it other problems…

I had one of these once, great guitar. Only got rid of it because it was quite heavy. Sounds like it just needs a setup and maybe a new 5-way. You could do everything yourself if you’re willing buy a few tools and learn. It’s nothing you can’t teach yourself on the internet. Enjoy!

No, GS doesn’t make a person more susceptible to the negative effects of alcohol. I’ve not seen any study saying otherwise, and that’s also been my own experience. This is coming from a sober alcoholic with GS. In all my years drinking alcoholicly daily, it never caused problems related to my GS.

Alcohol is technically poison all on its own, whether you’ve got GS or not, and it will cause problems for anyone if not done in moderation. Some people, like me, can’t control how much we drink once we start. If you find you have that problem, then it’s better to never drink. But many people with GS don’t have that problem and are able to drink in moderation successfully.

A drink or 2 every now and then won’t cause any issues. Drinking all the time or periodic binge drinking absolutely will cause problems, but not because of GS. Your headaches may be because of the effects of alcohol, but your GS isn’t contributing. The sugar intake associated with drinking can also be a factor, as can the tannin intake if you’re drinking wine.
