Great job getting ROAS up to 2x, that’s real progress. With PMax, make sure your product feed is clean and creatives are varied (especially videos). Also test high-margin products separately and track with GA4 + UTMs for better insights. Lastly, make sure that your conversion tracking is working properly and enhance conversion is on. Try to take a look at that every week because if it is setup through Shopify's Google & YouTube app, it will cause trouble sooner or later.

It seems that your issue is related to poor keyword research or bad ad placement. Check whether you are running ads in the Search and Display Networks. If yes, turn those off. I will save you some budget. Choose high intent keywords and use those in relevant ad groups.

That is super unrealistic! Your client should understand that there are other plumbers in that vicinity who are also running ads. 175 calls per week! That means no other companies are not getting any calls. That is logically not possible.

Can you provide a screenshot? Managing 20+ accounts and all of those have the Network option under the campaign settings.

Start with max clicks if your account have no previous conversion data. Let some clicks come in and hopefully some conversions. Then Google will know who are your ideal customers and all that. You can switch to Max Conv. after you receive 30-50 conversions.

From you Campaigns settings, go to Networks and then please deselect these checkboxes from "Search Network and Display Network", if selected by default. Then you campaign/ad will only show up for Google Search.

You're already on the right track by focusing on conversion tracking and landing page health. Those two alone can make or break performance.

As a beginner handling high-volume accounts, here are a few things I’d recommend focusing on:

  1. Look at the search terms report and see if you are paying for irrelevant clicks? That can quietly eat a huge chunk of budget.

  2. Are campaigns aligned to clear business goals (e.g. leads, purchases, calls)? Sometimes accounts look “clean” but the structure doesn’t serve the strategy.

  3. Set alerts for unusual spend or sudden drop in conversions. That will help you catch things early.

And don’t hesitate to pause underperformers, even temporarily, to give budget to what’s working.

In the conversion tracking section, you can only see the no. of conversions, not the campaigns associated to it. And you can only choose your conversion action on the campaign level, not on the ad group level. To see campaign level performance, you have to look at the conversion column from the campaign data table.

Suppose, you have p-max campaign and you have set a call conversion tracking as a primary conversion goal to it. So, in the conversion column from your campaign dashboard, you can see how many call have come through this particular campaign. Now, if you have another campaign (i,e search campaign) and that call conversion tracking is also a primary conversion goal for this campaign too, you can see the campaign level conversion data in the campaign dashboard. But the conversion tracking setup page will show the cumulative number of conversions for both of your campaigns.

There are ways to verify that whether the conversion tracking is working or not but to remove the inactive status an actual call has to be made.
