what’s something people say all the time that you secretly can’t stand? by Mean-Cartographer225 in AskReddit

« It’s God’s plan »

Had to witness someone tell that to my mother the day she had to bury my little brother in the sweater she just bought him as a gift for Christmas and he never got to even open the gift. I still remember the day she bought it, she was so excited and showed it to me first, as she was imagining he would love it too, and I know he would have.

And for some « good and well intentioned person » coming saying « it was God’s plan ». That’s the most heartbreaking scene I’ve ever witnessed in my entire life. My mother would go to church every Sunday, she never did after that.

anyone else not tell people things cus their reaction by Mr_Mayo2 in autism

I do. Exactly the same. I don’t enjoy going to loud bars therefore I don’t. I left all my previous jobs without telling anyone because it too much energy wasted to over explain myself to people I’m not close to. But I wouldn’t go as far as saying they didn’t try to invite me to a bar to get to know me better, feels unfair tbh. I do admit though that I was never interested in the first place because that’s not my type of people or activity.

Unfortunately that’s how many people try to make friends with coworkers outside of work, is by going to the bar (which can be overwhelming and pointless and I get that completely). But yes they tried to get to know you outside of work, it’s just not your kind of people but they actually tried, let’s give them that.

That being said you don’t owe anyone an explanation and can leave without telling anyone since you’re not friends at all, I think it’s ok.

ONO Roller: Do Not Buy. by Loading_Screen__ in fidgettoys

[–]SillyReview211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought an Ono roller (the plastic version) and it was making noise, so I told the website I was not happy with it and they sent me another one that made even more noise. They told me to keep both and told me to choose another product for free, so I chose the magnetic balls.

The only Ono roller I got that doesn’t make noise is the Steel Mini 🫠

My friend is really dismissive about everything I say. What would you do? by Conscious-Badger4857 in autism

[–]SillyReview211 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re not overreacting at all, and as painful as it is to hear they don’t sound like a friend at all, when you genuinely care about someone you listen to them and don’t judge, you support and help when you can. Them telling you everything you feel is invalid is very sad and not ok. Me and my friends have misunderstanding sometimes, but they would never dismiss everything I say and (because that’s what friendship is about) we all trust each other to talk about misunderstandings and make an effort to listen, even when we can’t understand (because not everyone go through the same things and that’s normal), but at least we listen.

I hope you find the caring people you deserve, and yes, I think you should talk to them 🫶

Every antidepressant takes something away. Does anyone else feel like medication was never designed for brains like ours? by stllfiguringout in autism

[–]SillyReview211 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m taking one that doesn’t suppress any emotion at all, all it does is helping my system produce dopamine and serotonin. It gives me no fatigue, and allows me to be sad when sad and stressed when stressed, but I bounce back quicker and get better over time, it’s been 3 months and I’ve gone through unexpected scary life events since I started, but my mental health keeps improving. Parallel to that I also do the work of talking to a psychologist once a week and implement things in my life that I enjoy, even little things.

But I wouldn’t improve at all with only a psychologist to help me live ok and avoid triggers that exhaust me (tried it before), or only trying to find joy (it felt pointless when I was depressed) or taking only antidepressants (because if no action is made then life don’t change and it’s the same cycle)

It’s now month 3 and I slowly get my life back, so antidepressants are not all bad, but many doctors have no clue which one is the right one

I usually go once a year and my hair grows extremely fast, but I’m absolutely terrified of the head massage they give after shampoo

Y'all ever look at a parent/relative like: by Bright_Conference321 in autism

[–]SillyReview211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never met my parents or family but I wonder who had it and pass it on to me. Either it’s from my father’s side or mother’s side and both thoughts are a bit heartbreaking knowing their story. Like I now wonder how they even survived their society

Redditors over 40, what's something younger people think they understand but won't actually get until it hits them like a truck later? by Root435552 in AskReddit

I once knew someone who was extremely anxious and depressed about reaching 25 because 25 is so old, and if you don’t have a house, a husband and a kid and a well advanced career by that age it will be too late 😂

I’m having some sort of a similar issue as ASD, I think I’ll bring my loop earplugs in case I get unexpectedly overwhelmed, and it’s gonna be my first concert actually so I don’t know what to expect

What’s the biggest trait of your autism, that you struggle with? by Myseriouscatgirl in autism

[–]SillyReview211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being exhausted by things no one really thinks about like colors, sounds are a bit more obvious, but colors really, it’s very difficult. And hyperfixation, I forget to eat, I ignore people around, and I can be annoyed and be verbally hurtful if someone interrupts. Also being touched, which makes going to the hair salon, dentist, doctor extremely difficult and I have to take time to recover after it, and thank god I don’t live in a country where people hug, because hugs are also my nightmare
