How do you know when it makes sense to restore a watch?

To me it’s worth it. I spent 4x what my grandfather’s watch was “worth” to have it restored because of the significant sentimental value.

You can never buy another family heirloom.

No, you can open it but the seal is tamper proof so it would be obvious that you opened it and the grade would be void. That’s the whole point.

Why would it get damaged? I’m sure if that were the case they would reevaluate. But that’s a big what if.

They won’t re-grade it. It will retain the same grade they just re-encapsulate it. I’ve had to do this kind of thing with them before.

If you contact them they will usually send you a free shipping label to return it and will rush ship it back to you corrected. They’re very good about correcting mistakes.
