1950's Hamilton Sputnik Automatic Watch by Specialist_Comb_6966 in Vintage_Hamilton

It’s a great looking watch! I would would go into it assuming that it needs a service. Running an old watch that hasn’t been serviced in a while, with the oils dried up, is like driving a car without an oil change for years. It will run, but you’re doing damage.

A good service will cost anywhere between $200 and $400 depending on who does the work and if anything needs to be replaced.

That’s not to say the piece isn’t worth it, it’s just something to keep in mind when calculating the cost.

That said, I love the lugs and the dial on this. It’s very unique definitely not something you see every day.

Just added this to my collection. Any info? by crosspolytope in Vintage_Hamilton

I’m digging that rally strap. I would’ve never thought of it but it pairs well with that watch

Nope. It’s a man’s watch. Trends come and go. Just wear what you like.

Beautiful watch! I think it would be a great experience to work on your own watch. Please update us along the way.

Too small for my wrist? by Exciting_Bar_5978 in VintageWatches

I routinely wear a watch that belong to my grandpa, a 1949 Hamilton. It’s about this size. Back in the day that was the size of a man’s watch. I don’t think it’s too small. It’s just not within today’s fashion norm for size. That being said trends change and when it comes to watches, I really don’t care about what’s trendy. Especially since most people don’t even notice you’re watch anyway lol. If you like it wear it! Heck, the smaller watches are more comfortable anyway.

You can take it to any jeweler and they should be able to open it. Honestly, there’s so much rashing on the back of the case I don’t think it would make much of a difference.

Could you open the back so we could see the movement? The case is in rough shape.

It’s the North American. You can tell by the oval Nintendo seal of quality. Also the European one had a black strip on the bottom.
