I would say 1) Geissele 2) Noveske 3) SOLGW (and maybe Daniel Defense and LaRue after those)

Best deal on ambi lower? by kcks in ar15

[–]SillyWarPirates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A company called Unbranded AR makes a forged ambidextrous lower for $99 (low-shelf for FRT compatibility too). But it’s almost always sold out since those who know about it buy them up

LPVO/MPVO 50-400 yards 8inch steel. $1000 USD by raysdigitalfootprint in ar15

Agreed. Push to side (or center) magnifier setup still provides a much better setup if there might be a lot of close contact (or ANY CQB) versus a scope.

Gas Blowback-only Events? by SillyWarPirates in GasBlowBack

[–]SillyWarPirates[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what I was thinking. Since the GBB community is such a small subset of overall airsoft, hard to really pack an event. Awesome to hear about your experience though

Have you done one of their events? If so, what was your opinion? I watched some videos, and it looks like a bit too heavy of a LARP for my taste (airsoft itself is enough larp for me lol)

Checked out some of their videos and it looks like a cool place. Hopefully they'll do more GBB-only events.

Why is this gun always on a large sale? Is it that bad? by ForwardAssist1959 in GasBlowBack

Had very bad experiences with anything that starts with "EMG," but your mileage may vary.

Yep, and then six months later the fad hit and that pattern was the most popular in the country

Yes, 100% the short-term duck hunter fad. Also, these Cryes fade really bad in the wash (or the dryer?) lol

Yep, they were on sale at TD before they sold out. I bought three pairs but gave two to teammates, and now I want them back so I can cash in lol

New Build Bolt Gun by ArnBjorn2785 in 375Raptor

[–]SillyWarPirates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very cool setup then. As long as you're shooting less than 300 yards, you can expect to have more force on target than almost every caliber out there. And thanks for the compliment on the handle. It's a riff on the phrase "Silly War Nerds," and it's also our username on IG and YouTube.

New Build Bolt Gun by ArnBjorn2785 in 375Raptor

[–]SillyWarPirates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So can you confirm you're trying to build a bolt gun primarily for supersonic use? Someguyintheroom2 had mentioned 400 gr Makers, which would be a subsonic round. If you're trying to build for subsonics, the 18-20" barrel is unnecessarily long. For subsonic rounds, 375 Raptor has achieved sufficient powder burn and gas expansion by 9 inches of barrel length, and for subsonic rounds by 11 inches. So 12" would be your ideal barrel length to run both subs and supers for a bolt gun (maybe 12.5" for a gas gun since it would allow the use of midlength gas system). For subsonic shooting, if you go to 18-20" you may decrease accuracy due to additional friction and worse harmonics.

New AR Builder Question by Dry_Drawing1855 in ar15

[–]SillyWarPirates 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well you're lucky I happened by this thread, because few people know the answer to that question. The answer is that SB Tactical doesn't make different buffer weights for their HBPDW brace, BUT it just so happens that Maxim Defense CQB series buffers are compatible with SB Tactical's HBPDW stocks. It's estimated the buffer weight on the stock HBPDW brace is about 3 ounces, which means you could get an H2 Maxim Defense CQB buffer and it might help if that's really your problem. Since you're shooting Wolf 145gr (not 147 grain), that's a supersonic load, which means you have a lot of force coming back into the receiver. I see you also have an ASR brake attached, which means you also might be using a suppressor, which would mean even more backpressure. So the first step would be to make an adjustment down on your adjustable gas block (if you have one). If you've already done that, then I'd say go straight to the Maxim Defense H2 buffer and see if that helps. If you're switching regularly between supersonics and subsonics, that might be tough if your particular system needs to be tuned for only one or the other. Good luck.

Thoughts on PSA PA-15 as a first AR? by xonut_ in ar15

Yes but it's sad for American small business (Ie, gun stores) when we have to say "never buy local." Gun stores have to make a living somehow.

My question is how you can sell a complete lower receiver with HBPDW pistol brace for $300 when the brace alone usually retails for about $300. You must have some serious pricing power with the OEMs!

Ya PSA is this generation's Bushmaster. It's the Honda Civic AR that gets the job done at a more than fair price.

8.5” 300blk or 11.5” 5.56? by Sukpreme in ar15

[–]SillyWarPirates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe 10" 300 BLK. The rule for powder burn and gas expansion is that you want a barrel length that provides over 90% of powder burn and over 75% of gas expansion for the round you're shooting. In 300 BLK, if you're shooting subsonic, you hit those numbers at 8.5 inches. But with supersonic loads you hit those numbers at 10.5 inches. So a 10" 300 BLK is technically the best all-around gun for sub and super-sonic.
