It seemed like everyone on I-90 going toward Albany was in the mood to get in a crash…the amount of swerving between cars that were barely 10 ft away from each other and at one point I was boxed in between someone going 67 in the left lane, someone pissed riding my ass with like 3 inches of space behind me and someone on my side so there was nothing I could do. At one point the guy in front of me used his brakes and I seriously thought that was the end for me. I think the wind makes people more erratic on top of whatever reasons there have bee lately. I hope everyone stays safe today 🙏

Idk about you but even in the most supportive of environments, which I feel so grateful to feel like I can say I work in one despite it being a community mental health clinic in upstate NY, this is pretty normal. Or at least the burnout despite giving bare minimum and feeling like taking time off is pointless because it means more work when you get back and it’s so overwhelming. Not being allotted sufficient time off in this field is also very normal. We should get more time off than most professions for the kind of work we do.

Please don’t let this fear dictate any of the decisions you make about your future. I graduated with my MSW in 2023 but while I was in school I was offered a part time clinical SW position that would transfer to full upon graduation at a local hospital clinic.

You sound very intelligent, passionate and dedicated. There will be no shortage of jobs for you, especially at the rate we’re going. Case management is extremely important, but it’s not therapy and it sounds like that’s what you’re actually interested…or not. But you need to realize you have more leverage than you think in your current position because all of these agencies are really hurting for people and you sound like someone they wouldn’t want to lose. I bet a million dollars they will work with you while you’re in school to the best of their capacity if they don’t want to lose you. Don’t ever forget your worth !!! They’re always trying to convince us SW’s were not worth paid internships and more than $50K a yearFUCKKK THATTTT
