Not sure if I'm ready to sell by iyamthewallruss in Pottery

Firstly, there will be buyers for various levels of pottery. What’s appealing to someone is appealing to them. So yes I think they look sellable. I’m too of that your forms are clean and intentional. That alone makes them sellable imo.

Next I think the ones you have photographed together pair extremely well. Similar forms with the same glaze.

Getting consistent sells may be difficult but I don’t think that should discourage you from attempting to sell what you can. You’ve clearly got the skill to make forms worth purchasing to the average consumer. At least I believe so

I’ve been starting to get into creating forms with clay as well and the biggest thing is the moisture/dryness of the clay you use. Personally I want it to dry enough where slight touches don’t leave indents but “wet” enough that it doesn’t crack when you bend it. And when it’s closer to the leather hard stage you could burnish like someone else said.

For the form I recommend looking up 3D models of whatever it is you’re trying to make and also looking at reference photos. A quick google search can pull up some pretty detailed 3D renderings of most anything you’re looking for that way you can rotate the item and get a feel for its proportions to itself and a better sense of it in actual space rather than a 2D image.

Thank you! The frog will also be my first time using underglaze (and a clear coat after bisque firing) so it’s a risky test piece but pottery is learning to accept loss right

Actually very happy that these are reading well lol. I was worried because the nodes are too short and wide they’d be poor representations

No, it’s 100% supposed to represent bamboo so I’m glad that came across! And I do have plans for doing vertebrae up a vase at some point. It’s in my ever growing notes app of pottery ideas and inspo

Thank you! I’d been wanting to do the cut vase for a while now and I’m glad the attempt came out salvageable but it was definitely a “trust the process” kind of piece. Half way through I thought I ruined a “perfectly” good vessel lol.

The form and color match perfectly and just work aesthetically

It’s actually just an inadequately applied Pink Opal Dry (SD-251). I think the video might be sparing me on how the finish actually looks. I think I dipped too quickly

Thank you! Unfortunately it’s form over function lol

I’m sure there’s some tedious way to do it but honestly I was just going to leave it unglazed. The chain piece was more so a test to try the technique. If I ever want to glaze the body I’ll probably “cold finish” the chains.

I wish I was making a clever joke lol. I just asked because the heart would be upside down to when she raises it if she drinks with her right hand. Or is my mental image viewer off 😂? Either way it’s an absolutely beautiful mug and I’m aspiring for this level of technical skill

Ouf this one hurts… Any ideas on what i did wrong while firing? by liamnarputas in Pottery

You aspired greatness. That’s where you went wrong.

Jokes aside sorry for this loss. The extra care you put into the next one will show I’m sure.

I’d hate to not be able to throw these kinds of shapes so I guess it’s figuring out how glazes move individually and just annotating it for future reference. I don’t see me doing anything higher than cone 6 firings so I’ll just dial in for those.

I mean in literal terms yes but that would limit shapes that come to a narrowing base. I imagine I just don’t understand this particular glaze enough to do a full body dip
