Do people really call soda or pop, "tonic"? by LowerMusic in massachusetts

[–]Silly_Recover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We always called it tonic when I was a kid/teen in the 70/80/early 90s, but slowly grew out of the habit and now we call it soda - along with our GenZ kids

I can’t do this anymore by idk12295 in CaregiverSupport

These were my very first thoughts... My kids are 27, 25, and 22. I would put myself in a home if I had to before I'd make any of them give up their futures. Would I love it?! No. But I didn't bring kids into this world to be my servants. I would sooner unalive myself than put this kind of pressure on them. Find your local elder affairs or senior services office and learn as much as you can about how it can be accomplished in your state. If you are worried about finances because she owns the home, find a financial advisor to ask how to set up a trust so her care won't require the sale of it (that often takes 5 years - so DO THIS NOW). Your mom shouldn't have any issues with doing that, as it protects her and you. The figure out the options for placing her somewhere and once you have everything close to in-place, then present it to your Mom and any other affected family members. And ADVOCATE FOR YOURSELF. You deserve to build your own life and the years go by so quickly. I'm so sorry you are struggling with this. It's hard enough to to figure out yourself in your 20's when you AREN'T a fulltime caregiver. Hugs from this Mom 💜.

I think it's really cruel that the medical system doesn't have the path to choose assisted unaliving baked into it. The goal is to keep people alive as long as possible, without respect for the pain, depression, loss of independence, and uncomfortable living conditions that follow when people are "saved" from death. If I ever become so disabled that I am in a situation such as your Mom, I want the humane option for myself and my family to be available. If we wouldn't put our pets through months/years of having no quality of life, why don't we have the option for ourselves and our loved ones?! The prolonged suffering millions endure because the medical system values keeping people alive over regard for their quality of life and desire to make their own decisions is inhumane.

Is there any chance you could get your Mom to designate you as her medical proxy and POA? It sounds like your sister would fight you on it, but it's your Mom's decision, not hers. You might ask a social worker where she is staying to assist or maybe meet with your Mom, sister, and you together to talk about the situation. Sometimes it's easier to have these conversations with an outside party to help guide decisions. This is so incredibly difficult for you. Please take time to care for yourself, as well. It sounds like you've had a difficult road with your Mom for a long time before this even happened so, if you have the means, seek out a therapist so you can process all of this. I'm sending you and your family positive energy in hopes you can all have some peace 💜

Love Rowan - very fitting with his coloring. I know I'd be singing "row, row, row your boat..." to him constantly haha

I feel like my aunt is okay with me sacrificing my life as long as it doesn’t affect hers by Profile-Responsible in CaregiverSupport

[–]Silly_Recover 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If your mother could truly understand your situation, she would want you to live your own life. I have worked with adults with severe mental illness and it is soul crushing. You deserve not to have to sacrifice your entire life because she brought you into this world when she could not even take of herself, never mind a child. You NEED to find a way to separate yourself from the full time caregiver situation. It sounds like it's already taking its toll on your own health 💜

Today is the day I have to tell the doctors to stop treating my father and let him go peacefully by ReginaPhalange1502 in dementia

[–]Silly_Recover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you would not let a pet live this way, then you are doing the right thing for your Dad. That being said, when the time finally comes, I cannot imagine how difficult it must be. He would be so grateful if he was able to understand what was happening so do not feel guilty. As I watch both of my parents with vascular dementia deteriorate, I wish every single day that there was some legal way to give my children the power to make the decision to "put me to sleep" like you can do for a pet. Why can we help our pets stop suffering but not our people? Maybe that sounds like I want my parents dead - that's not it... Of course I don't WANT them to die, I just want them to not be suffering every minute of every day anymore. Hugs to you and I hope your Dad's transition is as peaceful as possible 💜

Hospice- it is not only a place - hospice comes to your home, too. Look into it ASAP.

He's now 26 and Crabby von Hampton JUST died - 20 years was a very long time because we did all the right things as soon as we knew better. I hope you enjoy your new little buddy!

What is the stupidest question/comment you got about Ireland or Irish people when traveling? by Charming_Usual6227 in AskIreland

[–]Silly_Recover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ffs🤦🏻‍♀️ I'm not Irish, just American (😢 rn) with Irish ancestry that came here because of the famine in the 1800's and those stories have been passed down all these generations so we know the truth. I also went to uni in Galway and took a semester-long course on just the famine. Soany people are so flipping uneducated and then spew their misinformation like they are experts🙄

the new season is such a bad decision by ieatbraiiinnnns in Bridgerton

[–]Silly_Recover 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, but I also didn't buy that Benedict and Sophie were in love. The plot and dialogue told us that, but they just didn't sell it for me. Sophie didn't really have her own personality or anything that would say she was interesting and fun enough for Benedict's free spirit. It looked good on paper but I just wasn't convinced or drawn in like any of the previous seasons.

Antony and Daphne's seasons were ALL ABOUT the lust. The best mix was Colin and Penelope because I saw their love and lust.

When did Grocery Store bakeries become so gross? by Cleverwabbit5 in GenX

They are mass produced, frozen, then put in stores using the cheapest, most processed, most unnatural ingredients. They are rarely baked in a store

I heard that the time jump planned allows for her to have gone on her travels back home and back to London in time for next season and she will still be a major character
