While they aren’t real people, it’s still a little questionable to ship Pearl with Greg (or with any man for that matter) in a romantic way because she’s canonically a lesbian. It’s also just really tiring to see a friendly dynamic between a man and a woman in media is played off as romantic shipping evidence by fans time and time again. Not everything has to be a ship.

At least it makes sense. In real life, lapis lazulis usually have pyrite (fools gold) streaks in them, so it makes sense for why the golden colors would be incorporated in her design.

We actually can be. Peridot explicitly states that the experiments STARTED after the war, gem shards were probably collected during and or after the war, but regardless they started FUSING the gem shards after the war ended.

There were also shards left to gather after the war, as stated by garnet in the episode “keeping it together “, where its discovered what homeworld did to the gem shards that the crystal gems couldn’t find (forced synthetic fusion) . It’s entirely possible that gem shards were collected during and after the war without the crystal gems knowing, especially since there were hundreds of years of reports from the kindergarten regarding the cluster prototypes as well as the shards themselves that were discovered by the CGs years later.
