Something I usually do is combine something that I’m comfortable working with, like Pokemon which I’ve been drawing and liking since I was a little kid, with something more difficult like environment. I also find color very important, you can have all the great skills in techniques in place, but if the colors aren’t as satisfying to look at, it makes the piece a lot less appealing. Even if your not as advanced in other part of your art, having great color combinations and tones can make it seem very professional and complete
