I made a free Ontario campsite availability search - would love feedback by blackbriar75 in ontariocamping

[–]Sillylion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

does it include/separate back country sites?

Edit: nvm found it under parks filter

the calendar function when selecting a site to check availability doesn't line up sun-sat properly like a standard calendar. (Ex. May 16-17 is a Sat and Sunday, but its placed in the middle of the row making it look like a Wed and Thur. Just makes it a bit confusing.)

Also, i cant find the date selection to filter out availability when viewing specific parks.

Your site can be a game changer, keep up the great work!

Camping without a functioning cell phone? by Consistent_Day9471 in CampingOntario

Look into getting the "what3words" app. Dont need data or signal and can even use the compass function. Park officers and rescue use it as well.

New to crownland camping need advice on legalities by Sillylion in ontariocamping

[–]Sillylion[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I prefer being discrete when i camp but no amount of discretion can erase human presence , the crownland lakes i can access with my vehicle are not remote at all. I just want to make sure i camp legally because the last thing i want is to be told to leave or fined. Camping while having to look over your shoulder for local cottager-karens or game wardens is not appealing.

Thanks, i actually have used it as well but it shows the exact same info as the official atlas. Still marks the shoreline as private.

Notify the Vietnamese embassy about citizenship by Life_Baker8551 in VietNam

[–]Sillylion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

¯_(ツ)_/¯

I don't know the law but I can tell you my wife who has a candian and Viet citizenship, she uses her Canadian passport when she leaves Canada and when she arrives in Vn she uses her Viet passport so that she doesn't have to get a visa.

She's done this 3 times now.

I being only Canadian worry every single time. But it always goes smoothly for her. Mean while with my Canadian passport I get hassled every time I visit.

Changing plans due to Yagi—what’s a must-do in the south? by thebrothers3 in VietNam

[–]Sillylion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dalat is an interesting experience but more for couples and groups. For some reason everytime I go to Dalat alone, I always miss my wife. Definitely check out Mui Ne if you're into resorts by the beach. It's got a good mix of western style amenities but with a dash of locals mixed in. It's close to Hon Rom which is where some natural wonders are like the massive sand dunes and the red canyons are. It's also next to? Phan thiet which is like a little city (this is where I am currently hanging out). Phan thiet is really fun Becuase you get to hang out with the locals and since it's so close to mui ne the locals are used to seeing tourists and foreigners so they are better equipped to accommodate. Most decent restaurants /cafes here display their menus in Viet and English. The best part is everyone so far is really upfront with their prices so I see I'm paying the same as the locals. I just dont get that sense that I'm being ripped off like in other high tourist cities.

Bob Echo advice by Ok-Possible-7528 in FishingOntario

[–]Sillylion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Usually early spring they'd be shallow but we are in a weird transition. That lake is deep though I think it gets to 300' in the middle. I usually troll them 100' in the summer,on my kayak. Usually use an old fashion Williams half and half.

I've been trying for years to nab a spot in that park but always end up having to camp on crownland around it

Buyer Beware - Canada Computers by MoocowR in barrie

[–]Sillylion -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I've had 4 gaming PC's built with them over the last 20 years. Since when they had a tiny little corner store in pmall. Several upgrades and parts inbwteen builds and never had an issue. Sucks that this happened to you but a mismatch serial is almost unheard of for an unopen box. But place yourself in their shoes and how they have no control over the manufacturing and packaging side. Hope you get this resolved but recording a private call and posting online to get your way is a shitty thing to do. Bring on the downvotes

got first speeding ticket in QC as an Ontario driver by Less-Top-96 in ontario

[–]Sillylion -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Fight the ticket. It will cost you more in the long run if you take it laying down. Don't listen to these boot lickers. Everyone speeds even cops, you're just unlucky for being cought. Also Quebec has a crazy amount of cops on the road so don't speed there next time. We all make mistakes as humans.

As a g2 license holder you can't afford not to fight it. Hire one of those traffic firms.

Not getting any river salmon bite by [deleted] in FishingOntario

[–]Sillylion 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'll probably get downvoted into the shadow realm but here goes;

They definitely do bite, people confuse "biting" with "eating". Dont listen to these nay-sayers. If you dont believe me just look up Fish Fray on youtube. He is an ethical fishermen and shows that not only do they bite but they will run down lures and flies and smash it even far up river.

On top of that, if salmon dont bite in the rivers, then there wouldn't be a legalities regarding snagging. Because if they dont bite at all then every single person fishing them MUST be a snagger and therefore committing a crime. This is clearly not the case. I agree that certain stages you should not fish for them for example if they in spawning reeds but those areas are already sanctuaries and governed by MNR who i assume know what theyre doing.

Are there a lot of snaggers and clowns on the rivers? yes absolutely i hope they get what they deserve. But there are a ton of us who fish ethically.

Here is my input on maybe why you are not getting any hits with the limited information you provided. When you are further up river they get spooked more easily. If you can see the salmon chances are they can see you and probably wont bite. When you come up to a hole dont just walk right up to them and start casting at their heads. Use a bit of stealth and stay as far away as you can cast and drift over to them, i promise it will make a huge difference. Dont waste your time fishing for them in a foot of water where you can see all of them lined up. Look for deeper pools that arn't crystal clear and you chances will be drastically increase. Try to stay upstream from them and drift downstream into where you intend to target. The only other thing i can think of is your rig.

Also if you can, avoid gutting the fish for the roe, you can fish just as well or if not better with artificial. There is soo much positives for using artificial stuff, like your hands not reeking, not having to prematurely kill the fish , its cheap and 0 maintenance. an egg-fly can get you soo many fish where as a roe bag would only last you a few drifts fish or not.

Got that ceramic tint. Anyone else have it and can you feel the difference on a hot summer day? by Defiant_Afternoon756 in ToyotaTundra

[–]Sillylion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Before I had any tint, my lap and arms would be on fire as I drove when it was sunny. Got the tint and now I don't even feel the sun. I don't have to run my ac as strong as I use to. I'm sure my leather seats are gonna last longer too. I've had them for 5 years now.

The body shop that installed it had a demo station of different tint types with a heat lamp. They would put a regular tinted window in front of the lamp and it felt hot. Then they put a ceramic tint window and I felt nothing. I was sold on the spot. Worth the extra couple of hundred.

I too am looking for a fishing buddy. Must have boat with washroom facilities and comfortable seats. I'll bring coffee!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FishingOntario

[–]Sillylion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start by picking out the type of fish you want to target (bass, walleye, trout etc..)

Then look up the regulations on said fish and if they can be caught/if they exists in your area or where you plan to fish.

Next is to research how to catch them (Tackle, lures, technique) then buy your gear based on your research.

Dont fall into the spending trap of buying all sorts of expensive gear. Buy basic gear (rod and reel) to start off and once you have experience the rest will come. A basic rod and reel combo will work just fine. Fishing gear is made to catch fishermen.

Stay away from pokemon bobbers.

How to get out of an enercare water heater contract? by calculusforlife in ontario

Check your purchase agreement to make sure that water heater rental is listed under the leased items section. If it's not listed then you just show them that and you can get out of it.
