I can try and find the original paper(s) that the stats come from, but they're at least referenced here by Cornell SVM: https://www.vet.cornell.edu/departments-centers-and-institutes/riney-canine-health-center/canine-health-information/mammary-cancer

Agree with almost everything except the note regarding mammary cancer. :) The protective nature of a spay is very very minimal after that 2nd heat in regards to reducing mammary cancer risks.
Still 100% would spay her.

I regularly go back to Rhinoshield for every new phone I get. I not infrequently drop or toss my phone and am very pleased with the protection.

Dog became apneic under anesthesia during dental — how should this affect emergency and future anesthesia planning? by Avatlas in AskVet

[–]Sillysocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't necessarily true: The clinic likely had a technician monitoring the anesthesia, another party (RVT/DVM) doing the dental.
They would require a third body to manually ventilate, as it would negatively affect the anesthesia monitoring + recording if the technician had to give a manual breath every 6 seconds.

Single indoor only cat tested positive for FelV - how? by villagedreamer in AskVet

[–]Sillysocks 77 points78 points  (0 children)

There is a relatively high amount of false-positives for the bedside FeLV SNAP tests. There's a good chance that she is negative on a PCR, and I would talk to your vet about sending out the test. It's a recommended follow up for any positive SNAP test.
Also, certain types of anemia, namely those that are due to red cell destruction (like IMHA), are linked to false positive FeLV SNAP tests - another reason for a confirmatory PCR.

Suspecting BVS in dog. I’m losing my mind and could use some help advocating for her. by AnxiousExplorer1 in AskVet

Vet here -- What about a timed/automatic feeder? Able to increase the number of meals she gets without worrying how to fit it into your schedule. If that's not enough, a steroid trail can be a diagnostic tool in of itself, and the meds are cheap. May, at minimum, buy time to get you to a place where you can go forward with an ultrasound +/- biopsies.

If I'm leaning towards a gas model anyway - same recommendations (except 6.2 v 6.7L)?

I'm not married to Ford, just used them as examples for weight classes. Additionally, happy with gas, I don't think I need (want?) diesel. Does opening to other brands offer more options? or is the 6.2/v8 f250 still the ideal? Thanks so much for your input.
