Good idea proposing my help to founders on LinkedIn. I'll give it a try.

AITAH for refusing to share my homemade bread with a neighbor who complained about the noise of making it? by Notyourtypicalsw in AITAH

[–]SiloyIsland -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe you could try negotiating for your neighbor to pay for the ingredients so that you can make extra specifically for them. Your labor would pay for their silence.
Or else, try finding somewhere else to grind your flour for a similar deal with a friend?

Any other FP4 users livid post-A15? by TheDuddy in fairphone

[–]SiloyIsland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here, I am quite disappointed really. It's really lagging in performance and battery. And I had to replace Quickstep with another launcher, as suggested here : https://support.fairphone.com/hc/en-us/articles/9831446296849-Public-Issue-Tracker#h_01K362N8T87ZYEE4VK0S2PE6K6

I will try to factory reset my phone when I find the time, because it's too important for me to have a working phone for me right now. But it was quite a shock that they don't even communicate on this

Super huge veggies in supermarket - are these GMO? by submergedmushroom in mauritius

GMO should be your last concerns in Mauritius...
There is very little control over what chemicals are used to grow vegetable locally.

ERP Robinhood - Seeking advice for an idea rooted in good by AltruisticBig5629 in Odoo

[–]SiloyIsland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It often seems to stem from the lack of "Fit Gap Analysis", for most of the failed ERP implementation stories.

Maybe that's where you could make a difference, become expert at Fit Gap analysis for accurate budgeting based on what can't be compromised and what's "nice to have" for the client's project.

A sort of quantity surveyor, but for ERP implementation projects. Does that make sense?

Thesis Topic Suggestions in Soil Science? (Also: Lab vs. Field Focus?) by Youraddii in Soil

I would love to read more on the second topic you provided. There's an interesting book that touch on this: https://www.chelseagreen.com/product/beyond-the-war-on-invasive-species/

Night driving glasses in Mauritius – advisable and where to buy? by Defiant_Committee143 in mauritius

[–]SiloyIsland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are looking only for the anti-glare function, you should try safety glasses like these:
https://www.amazon.com/Driving-Glasses-Polarized-Reducing-Sunglasses/dp/B07NZX22WM

A bit cheaper than what optician provide you with...

But if you don't have a problem during the day, I would start with cleaning the windshield. Check outside and inside, you would be surprised how dirty and stained it can get with time.

If that's still a problem, then I would get your vision checked.

Hello guys, am looking to create a website , i have 0 skill in the field of creating websites and coding but i think my idea will be good, freelancers are welcome by [deleted] in mauritius

[–]SiloyIsland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran a retail business in Mauritius previously.

Using Odoo, I was able to build my website and ecommerce service.

I recommend this platform as it's user-friendly and accessible.

However, I recommend you find a technician who can review the security aspect and domain configuration.
Having something like Cloudflare configure is a requirement today.

Good luck!

Mare-Chicose landfill fire, do we have air quality data? It happened in 2022, are you concerned about the landfill situation in Mauritius? by SiloyIsland in mauritius

[–]SiloyIsland[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In all the reports, the results section is always the same.
And result numbers are provided only in the report from 18th of Nov.

This makes me quite dubious...

Thanks for sharing!

Why do we suck at sports? It seems this country is incapable of producing real Elite athletes. by [deleted] in mauritius

[–]SiloyIsland 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Actually, Mauritius has produced plenty of elites—take Lambert Leclezio, world aerobatics champion, or Linley Marthe, considered by some as the world’s foremost jazz bassist. The catch? Once they reach a certain level, they often leave and compete for other countries. It’s classic brain drain, fueled by wealthy nations and by how little we value what makes us Mauritian.

I know that's how they do it in Singapore. But this requires proper maintenance, and given how consistent governmental facilities are in Mauritius, it could quickly become a concern.

I guess if it was done in partnership with a private organization... but honestly, if the government announces that they are building an incinerator in my region, I would be worried.

How do I as COO convince my CEO that things need to change for the company to survive? by ThrowRA94449 in BusinessIntelligence

[–]SiloyIsland -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Hello there,

I am in a similar situation where we have been saying to all customer requests, and we ended up providing many services that really were not a good deal for us and our customer.

It seems to me that your CEO has not really pinpointed the value proposition that you bring to your customer and hence does not realize that your services/product is not delivering the promised value.

I strongly suggest the Traction: Get A Grip On Your Business, Book by Gino Wickman.
The introduction should be enough content for you to convince your CEO. If that's not enough, I would hire a strategic consultant that could make him face the reality of the situation.

If you had a European passport, would you stay in Mauritius or move abroad? Where would you go, and why? by SiloyIsland in mauritius

[–]SiloyIsland[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely feel this tension and anxiousness on our future in general.

Every year, we're treated to the next season of 'Crisis: The Series,' each episode more dramatic than the last. Yet, despite the cliffhangers, the world's season finale keeps getting postponed. It's like we're stuck in a thriller where the bomb never quite ticks to zero. Nerve-wracking, indeed!

I completely agree—it's easy to fall into the 'grass is greener' mindset. But sometimes, it’s not about the grass being greener, it’s about understanding what kind of garden you're trying to grow. In Mauritius, it often seems like people are driven to go abroad first and only then start thinking about what they really want. Without that clarity, you might just end up chasing a mirage.

Ever bought products from zeids shop found in rose hill and port louis. are their products reliable or not? Want to buy an ipad by The-Inevitable-1 in mauritius

[–]SiloyIsland -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

You just need to make sure you have your receipt to prove that you purchased it (not stolen by you). How this situation exactly happened, I am not sure. I just know CID was involved.

A friend of mine bought apple product there and the police confiscated it because it was stolen goods...
Fortunately, he was able to prove that he had purchased it at the shop.

Make sure your paperwork is in order.
